Hey dude. I can understand the indecision at what to do as they are both cool cars! My personall way would be to try and weigh up what you need from the car, you couldnt sleep that comfortably in the Slamtana like you did in this.. but I have no doubt the £££ and time could also improve the slamtana no end... I'd be intrigued to see a slamtana-wagon in the flesh and that could be an awsome car (Bigger roof for the lace paint!).. Perhaps the way to go is to get some people photoshopping up the sort of look you may go for and see how you feel? Or even SORN it and get the 'apprentice' to learn on it! Oh and just remembered what you said about putting curtains in - I'd love to see that Whatever you do will be better for old motors than the crusher - good luck!

you do have a good point, but now i know the 5pot into a 4pot is a moosive job then thats looking doubtfull too
Today I'm gonna price the parts and make the decision, there is no rush to do anything
one option for me is to swap some of the finer things to the santana, but rather than kill this, then just de-tidy it - everythng can be swapped etc.. then see where i am ina couple of months time and maybe this does become a long term project..
if i had to pick one then i'd go for the santana over this...

having slept on it, the plans still remain clouded..
so dropped a shopping list into the local moto factors, Dan, your right those plans about the curtains etc etc still niggling..
A wagon is defo much more practical, and I'm now questioning myself - whats the rush, SORN it and start doing the work, Let wendy and me have a good learning curve, not just on the MOT stuff, but other stuff as well..
So i may be calling on those who are prepared to lend a hand....

^^ good idea, i'll make a shopping list for you with improved parts ;D If you need any secondhand parts, let me know, i have some space left in the Variant.... most of the supension/brake parts are cheap as chips over here, so if it i cheaper, i can get the stuff here and bring it over ...

Cheers mrj - if you can get anything in your wagon then I'd prefer some Santana rear lights and indicators (headlights woudl be awesome too, but i guess they would be RHD) lol
Right, just got the prices back from my local motor factors and the total with VAT is £315.70 just in parts, before anything else, and they said that the steering damper maybe a strugle to get hold of too so have quoted for a tie rod end with damping (i'm guessing the same thing)

So I may be calling on those who are prepared to lend a hand.... You know where I am am on this and will stand by that to help wherever possible As said last night, it's not an easy decision to make but I know you'll make the right one that works best for you & Wendy. After all, it's about you and they are your cars to do whatever you want with. The fact it has been saved from the scrapman and could be used to save other cars (as a worst case scenario) is better than its previous fate. Whichever route you chose, it's better than the original fate of this car before you saved it.

Cheers Bruce
I'm going to go over it tonight and weigh up what i can use/salvage before making the final decision, £315 on parts just to get roadworthy is a lot for its potential value, then there is the cosmetics to sort out too.. I'd rather throw that at the santana and maybe think about some super sexy wheel for it instead

If people who repaired, modified or call it what you want went by a cars value to weather it was worth keeping on the road this and other forums would not exists, ther would probably be no car shows worth visiting and the remaining cars that did survive would end up over priced.
Saying that you have to do what you want as said, they are your cars but if you want my advice give the wagon to me.
You have also told me many a time how you want to create a van of your own well that my friend involves a hell of a lot of welding, tell you what if you do it the other jobs will seem like a peace of cake, there you go a bit of tough love

You have also told me many a time how you want to create a van of your own well that my friend involves a hell of a lot of welding, tell you what if you do it the other jobs will seem like a peace of cake, there you go a bit of tough love This is yet another reason why i shoudlnt have posted anything, you told me the other day about someone in that unit nr you broke a wagon, same colour too... yes I'd love a van, at some stage - right now I cant justify spending £350 on parts just to get this roadworthy, before then starting more work on other things.. Ok i could sell the Santana and fund it that way, but had i not posted up about this car, then any normal person woudl say, £200 car, £350 parts alone for MOT - scrap it.. but I'm not plannig on just scrapping it, which is where it was headed before i stepped in - I'm contemplating either a full on project and not worry about the MOT yet or to break it and help keep others on the road, My even rarer santana as one of them others if you want to cross my palm with the £300 it now owes me, please do so.. but i can guarantee this, if i wait a couple of weeks, decide and then put it up for sale - i bet no one will pay £300 for a MOT failiure car that needs £350 in parts when a more solid/straight one with MOT and Tax are availabel for less!! I sold that B2 Hatch with a 5 pot in it on ebay and only got £300 with 5 months tax and 7 months test left.. why I'm still even having this debate is showing my hate for breaking things, but sometimes it just has to be done..

I'd save it... well minus roof rear windows and boot lid... see I have an idea.
I am restoring an Oval for my girlfriend at the moment so any new cars would be mega frowned at.
