I have just returned with four Watanabe wheels and I want to mount tyres today and test fit them. I thought I would start with bald tyres that I'll try and scrounge from the back of Kwik Fit in Peckham but can anyone help me out with recommendations on what tyres suit a mild stretch look on a 15X6.5 and a 14X6 inch wheel please. I thought this had come up on RR recently but I did a search and couldn find anything. Too old maybe? Thanks for your help. Pics are always useful. I think I'm answering my own question. Unless your wheel is extra wide - 8 inches or more you can't do the stretched look. Correct?
As I can't a 15" tyre that is less than 185 then I'm not going to get the strech.
And on the 14s 175 seems to be about the narrowest.

penski in da house: 175 15s are available Hard to get though
I'm running 175-55-15" Smart Bridgestones on 6.5X15" Seat Ibiza TDI steelies and that's NO stretch, on the other hand the diameter is exactly the same as the 175-70-13" that's stock on the Skoda PickUp.....
DP says: With Moon Discs ofcourse.......

I have just discovered that Smart Bridgestones are the 175/55/15s. I think I'll get some. No stretch for me but still a nice snug tyre and smaller than the 185s everywhere else.
Thanks for the info DP.

I'm now leaning towards 145 65s from the front of a Smart car to go onto 15 x 6.5s. Will they fit? I think that'll be a stretch. Charlie

No stretch for a 14x6, best bet would be a 175 50 14 although they are expensive.
For your 15s, you can get a 165 50 which should look spot on.

with tyres is the first number (i.e. 175) a measurement in mm, or what?

Yes, second one is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width (eg - 55 = 55% of the width in mm), third is the wheel diameter in inches.

The width is measured at the widest part of the tyre (normally somewhere down the sidewall )and the inside rim is much narrower to fit on a skinny wheel. Take a 6" wide wheel which is measured from its narrowest point and the inner rim of the tyre is pulled out from about 5" to 6" or 7". I think.

And I think 145/65/15s will look very stretched over a 15X6.5 rim. A picture of this would be great. My plan is to buy the front wheels from a Smart, use the tyres and sell the wheels.

How on earth did you manage to get 4wheels back on a plane? (surely personal luggage weight restriction)

I had a 20kg suitcase and two boxes with two wheels in each box weighing 15kg per box. I think the total was 52kg. I was prepared to give them a big story about a sick colleague and how I was bringing back commercial samples blah blah blah. But I didn't even need to say a word. The check in girl just stuck fragile stickers on the boxes and gave me a boarding pass. Business class baby!
Funnily enough I then got upgraded to first class at the gate.

And I'll be back in Bangkok in May so I will try to bring back more then. A pair of 15s and a pair of 14s would be good.

As a real motorsport wheel with a minimal dish i'm not sure the stretch look would suit the style? I would like to see a nice square shouldered tyre sitting on those rims
