But...what about the Delica?

But...what about the Delica? My Delica is sat prepped and masked up ready for paint. It would have been painted by now but I decided that I wanted an even more matt/satin paint and that my motor wouldn't carry the finish off as well as the three cars did. A hard decision to make, but I'd rather get it right than paint it for the sake of completing four cars in a weekend.

A hard decision to make, but I'd rather get it right than paint it for the sake of completing four cars in a weekend. Basically the finish on the cars came out a satin that was more gloss/satin than matt/satin (although this has even off to a nice smooth satin since) Being such a big, slab sided vehicle and having chosen a military green I though it wouldn't work to have that finish on mine. For the Delica to carry off the colour it needs to be matt satin (almost matt) so I made the decision to hold off getting it sprayed this weekend and I'll be sourcing some other paint with the hope of possibly getting it painted this coming weekend. All the prep is done except for the last panel wipe & tack cloth, the 'spray booth' is still pretty much set up and so is the compressor so it shouldn't take much to get it painted once I get the new paint. I was gutted because I wanted to get four cars done in one weekend but as said above, I'd rather do it right even if it means waiting another week. Here are some shots of it looking a bit sorry for itself....

Feeling tired today, with fingers rubbed raw from undoing interior trim and nerves on edge from dodging brittle plastic interior clips. But, I wouldn't have changed it for the world. What a mad, mad weekend where I got back into the swing of cars, beers and general blokishness. I've been away too long and despite sat here with my head banging on the desk I'll be back and back again.
Possibly one of the most productive weekends for me, not personally, but seeing three cars roll in then out a different shade really gave a52 a sense of achievement. Well done everyone involved and thanks for all of the help offered as I was sat/laid/bent into all sorts of uncompromising shapes whilst swearing.
The general vibe at a52 makes it what it is...and I'm so glad it's just around the corner
[ok, gushing over now, where's the shower gel gone, there's decontaminating to be done]

I'm quite surprised at how 'glossy' the satin came out. It look more like unpolished gloss. I'm with you on the finish, had I had my Cuore done, I would have wanted a much more satin look.

The finish on the three cars got flatter and more satin as the day went on and I think they will be a lot more 'satin' in a few days. The guys were all very pleased with the finish (well, that's what they said anyway) but I just felt it was wrong for the look I am aiming for with the Delica. It's going to cost me another £40 in paint and a delay in getting the van back on the road but I do think it's a small price to pay to get the right effect as opposed to living with an effect I'm not 100% happy with for the sake of completing all four cars in the same weekend.
Watch this space for updates on the Delica....hopefully being painted this coming weekend.

Looks like another great area52 day lads, cars came out brilliant! Bruce, I think you were right to hold off and get a more matt finish for the Delica. Glad to see a little of your "Hollywood" spray on dirt still on the wheels and tyres too!!!

Excellent weekend. I'm still shattered typing this now! Very tiring, very hot, very VERY dirty, but also very VERY worth it The good thing was there were enough hands on deck that everyone didnt have to be 100%, all the time which was good. As Bruce said, as the paint continued to cure it was getting more and more satin thanks to everyone for a fun day and Hardcore for the lift to Halfords (twice!) and RobinXR4i for the insider info haha the carlton was thinking about overheating on the journey back (after about 45mins -> 1hr driving at 85 with the temperature creeping creeping creeping up) so pulled in and removed the grill which meant she sat at a perfect 85 (degrees) all the way home think its either the stat not opening fully or the rads maybe silted up a bit, or the system not pressurising properly (noticed a crack in the head tank but have a spare so will swap it out ) Anyhow, yesh, top work, hope I can make plenty between now and gathering and also get my own cars ready
