As some of you will know, there is currently a monthly fortnightly weekend of mayhem, beer, good food and even some tinkering on cars down at my unit in Bristol.
The main Area 52 thread can be see here: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rrgs&action=display&thread=75682 but be warned....there is a LOT to see in there so dedicate an hour or three if you want to see the whole story!
Since starting the 'Playdays' back in September last year they have grown to become a massive success. Many people from Retro Rides have been along to the weekenders and most, if not all, have gone away having learnt a lot, met new friends and generally with a new sense of enthusiasm towards their own cars.
With the Gathering fast approaching I have been running these weekenders fortnightly instead of monthly due to the sheer amount of work needed to try and get our top secret group project vehicle designed, built and running for the Gathering.
Known only as 'Project X' all current playdays between now and the Gathering are dedicated to getting this vehicle as complete as possible. It's a hands on project which is mostly scratch built....dates are below if you fancy coming along to lend a hand with this?
Now to the reason for this particular post....the "Special" Weekender.
In between two of the playday weekends I would like to run another weekender with a different mission and I think some of you might be interested.
The aim is to respray two or maybe even three cars in a weekend.
This isn't going to be a pro job with mega shine....we are aiming this to be a satin finish so no need for laquer, cutting back etc. This will make the target more acheivable compared to a more 'conventional' respray considering the timescales we've got.
Why not rollers & paint brushes I hear you ask? Because I want to learn a bit about spraying and this is as good a way to start learning.
This means there is an opportunity for more people to learn who have always wanted to spray something but never had the confidence or equipment. It also means that anyone with experience of spraying can come along and share their skills with other Retro Rides people. It's all about the community! Teaching & learning skills in one busy but productive weekend.
The two cars currently lined up for the spray work:
Ben711200's slammed Volvo 240 which will be sprayed chocolate/dark satin brown
My Mitsubishi Delica which will be sprayed satin olive drab
There is a third possible but not confirmed yet.....so if anyone wants to add their car as a 'reserve' please put your hand up. The colour can be anything as long as it's satin 'gun' finish....and this will be an external paint job. No engine bays/internals. This is an opportunity to get your car repainted with the help of other RR people for literally the cost of the materials and some money in the kitty towards the cost of running the weekend.
So there you go, if you fancy getting involved and having a go at rubbing down, trim removal, masking up, painting and reassembly (x3) in one fun filled weekend, please let me know.
The dates for this weekend are Friday 25th June > Sunday 27th June.
As much prep will be carried out on Friday as possible (trim removal, rubbing down, some masking) then Saturday will be the big sprayathon with Sunday being the reassembly.
I look forward to seeing some of you down at the unit....either for this unique event or for one of the other playdays.
Here are the dates for all playdays leading up to the Gathering:
