Just wondering how ya'll tinted your windows.
Ive seen various ways of doing it from spray to vynl. I'm wondering what the easiest DIY way of doing it is for the most durable finish.
Places round my way (Bristol) can charge upwards of £40 a window.
So many cars with light tints on here, surely not everyone uses ppl to do this??
Cheers.

I got a roll of decent quality window film from USA via ebay. I cant remember the size of it, but even including shipping charges, it was stupidly cheap compared to UK sourced film. I have done 4 or 5 cars now and am only half-way through the roll. It cost me about the same as enough to do 1 car from a UK source would have cost.
Actually applying it is not that hard. it takes patience, absolute perfect cleanliness and a little common sense. Take your time to do it right and it will be as good as a pro job. Rushing it will leave you with bubbles, creases and a nasty mess. Flat glass is dead easy and there are plenty videos on youtube showing techniques for fitting to curved windows.

Don't you have the cheap vinyl rolls in england? Here they're like 10€ and one roll usually is enough for all rear windows, 3m stuff isn't that much more expensive either.

Mine was pretty good it looked black and smoked (the fronts were lighter than the back) and it never even tried peeling.

Would have to disagree I'm afraid. I used to run a company years ago fitting it, along with armoured clear tint (bullet proofing). Whilst we used the more expensive film s this was due to the increased thickness along with better UV resisting properties. Personally I find the cheaper far thinner roles on e-bay easier to install and initially look just as good as the most expensive. The difference is a couple of years down the line the cheapy films will turn bright purple (not a good thing bearing in mind how hard it is to get them off afterwards) and the decent quality ones will still look like new. A plus point for the cheapies is if you install them on a warm day you can achieve greater concave flexing. Ie you don't need to split the back screen in more than 1 piece to stop creasing. As said previously preperation is the key, along with taking your time and treating the film with great respect. Bearing in mind you should take any windows that move on runners out if they are charging £40 a window I think thats pretty good value (we charged around that 10 years ago). As for the spray on stuff i don't think ive ever seen it done properly. Its always looked terrible. As such i never used to do it so wouldnt know how to do that properly. It depends what sort of quality job you are after, if your not that bothered about bubbles, creases and contamination, buy a cheap roll of film off ebay, watch a tutorial and have a go yourself.
But if you want a top quality job with a film thats guaranteed not to shrink and fade then pay the money and leave it to the professionals, it's a lot harder to get a good finish than you think.

I got the windows in our Cherry done with a light smoke. I pulled them all out and took them to a local place to do them. Because they didn't have the car in the way or had to do the work removing and refitting, they charged me £120 and it looked perfect. Having had a go at tinting before, I know it'd have taken me a weekend to do them all so £120 for me is much better than wasting two days of my time on them, especially when you factor in the cost of the film, especially all the film I'd waste doing it wrong and having to try again!

Tint out of a spray can. In fact everything in life is available in a convenient aerosol spray.....
Now where did I leave that can of "Kids Be Gone"? It was just here a minute ago....
