Yeah they are RWD. And a 2.3 V6 from a Tina is very, very appatising Also like the idea of a Taxi sign on the roof for sheer comic value ;D Why would you want a 2.3?? The 2.8 is exactly the same fitment and a better engine, especially for a sleeper!!

Insurance and petrol I'm still only 18. Think insurance for me (as named) on a tina 2.3 v6 was £600 but a 2.8 in a moddified Stellar is going to be more. Hopefully going to uni September so don't want anything to thirsty either. Now an LPG 2.8.... ;D

Been talking to my Stellar guru who tells me its a Mitsubishi Galant lump from the 70's version. Mainly the 1600 'Sport' spec Galant that had twin carbs. Yes, various other Mitsubishi lumps fit straight in as well as Ford lumps. So, anyone know by any chance what twin carbs the 1974 Mitsubishi 1600 'Sport' used? And where i could ever possibly in billion years get my hands on the carbs and manifold?

So, anyone know by any chance what twin carbs the 1974 Mitsubishi 1600 'Sport' used? And where i could ever possibly in billion years get my hands on the carbs and manifold? Wouldn't it be easier to stick different carbs (Pair of 1 3/4 SU's? Weber DCOEs...) on rather than track down the Mitsi ones? As far as I know (and I don't know much about these J motors...) they tended to use Western carb manufacturers like Zenith. Probably totally wrong though...

Yeah it would, unless you can track down an original twin carb Mitsi manifold (then you could fab some sort of adaptor), but then you'd probably be able to find the original carbs at the same place you found the manifold!...

Drop a 24v cossie lump in it, slam it a bit and slightly wider wheels just to get the power onto the tarmac. Then I'd go and upset a few Saxo and Corsa owners ;D

of course my post was in jest - most of the stellers i saw in the past were taxis - so you are lucky to find one in this condition - but change the steering wheel first - then worry about the rest

Now saying sold, does that mean you bought it?
There was a chap came on the Datsun forum recently saying he'd got one with 30k he was looking to shift. Pointed him in this direction, but don't recall seeing it on the for sale board.
Anyway, I certainly think the Stellar has potential. I even found myself the other day looking at a Hyundai Accent out of the window, wondering what they'd look like cleaned-up, lowered and fitted with decent wheels. Everything has potential doesn't it? (Apart from Daewoo Nubira and Ssangyong Rexton, two of the ugliest cars I can think of.)

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Yup, rang up and got it brought last night ;D Got to sell the Orion before i pick it up though, ah well. Having spent time trying to get info from mitsubishi and hyundai forums about it (like getting blood from a stone) i've descovered a) the turbo from the dodge/mitsu colt will bolt straight on apparently and b) on not so good a note, the thermostat is incorporated into the inlet manifold on the stellar, meaning manifold swap is going to be interesting.

My dad actually had 3, 2 manuals and an auto as taxis. Great cars. Mechanical parts are ford based so very plentiful, engine parts are Mitsu, so very reliable. When the engines go wrong it can be pricey. They tend to be plastic but comfortable and hardwearing (why do you think they were so popular as Taxis).
I actually wouldn't mind one myself now. Forgot how period Stellas were.
