I currently Run a Panasonic Head unit (very nice indeed) with the usual 6x9's and 6's and they run off a 4 channel X-Plode Sony amp, but I aint actuallly used it in ages in fact the last time i Listened to tunes in the motor was on the way to RCS last year. I perfer to hear the rumble of the motor.

Fitted my head-unit in the glovebox connected to some new component speakers....  Leaving the original stereo still operating through the original mono speaker....  The ipod is connected to the head unit using one of those tape connector things with the headphone jack - but to be honest the sound quality leaves a little to be desired. Considered the amp 'only' option as seventynine describes, but I quite like listening to the radio  On a similar subject i'd like to listen to my Teac DAB radio once parked-up in the van. I was going to get an inverter to run it through but noticed it runs on transformed 12v (down from 240) Anyway. Presumably it would not be a good idea to connect it direct? I assume some kind of regulator would be required to maintain the correct amp/h rating. Could anyone advise what would be the best way to provide my radio with power? |

Hey, I've just remembered - I've got the 1986 tape deck from the Dolo still, if you'd want it? I can post it to you gratis, it's just sitting in the garage, replete with installation recipt (180 quid the whole thing cost in 1986!!!!). Works great, I chopped it in for a CD headunit, or if anyone else is interested shout. www.antchip.com/int.jpg < it's the one in that pic (linked because of size) |

The problem canuck has is that the early Victor FD has no place to fit a head unit in it without hacking a dirty great hole in the dash. The glovebox is a locker on the trans tunnel which looks ideal but on basic models has no lid and is actually too shallow for yout o get a head unit into it anyway even if you get one with a lid.
On the facelifted FD there is a space for a radio, but its not deep enough to take a modern DIN head unit unless you modify or remove the heater channel behind the dash.

I'll have to look - I can't remember. I think it was aperture, but I'm not 100%. Either way, I've got whatever I took it out of, as I replaced it with a new cage  - whatever it came out of was much smaller than the new cage I put in! But I'll have to hold back, I'll check  That's teh biz, much cleaner in real life though ;D |
