just spent all afternoon talking about how all car secnes are dieing ! it doesnt matter what types of cars fords, vws, ect ect ect , there all getting smaller , and the people that are showing cars are getting olded and olded theres very little new blood comeing in to any secne . WHICH IS NOT A GOOD THING ok there is still a few young ones comeing in but not enough to keep all the secnes going why is this ?? money ? people are getting lazey? or is it all the moden stuff looks the same ? or do we have to wait until the saxo vts becomes a retro classic ?? because given time it will trust me wont belong befour people are geting old vts,s and spending 3k on them to put them back to standed !

I'm a youngun, on the scale of things (19). I've so far got....5 or 6 lads my age to buy classics (muhahahaaaaa) even sold a few to them, and spread the word out a fair bit to the uninitiated.
I think the pure problem is that no-one ever sees the cars on the road, or being used, or picks up the appropriate magazines and just assumes old = slow and poor handling (ok, so it's true in some cases ;D).....
You know, fair enough they might see an MG, shiny classic bimmer or a Sprint parked up, but how many will have the initiative to actually go find out how good these cars are.....whereas they always see modern cars being razzed, showing off, etc etc..
I'm sure you get the jist - when shown, they are interested! It's just getting through to them that's the problem!

I would say there are quite a few younger people coming into the retro scene, just from going by the ages of a lot of the people on this forum there are a hell of a lot under 25.
From what I can gather the modified classic market has also gotten quite a bit bigger over the past few years and a lot of that is down to the internet making information and knowledge a lot easier to gain access to, and sites such as Ebay where it is pretty easy to get a lot of obscure car parts.
There are also a lot of bigger car shows around.
Admittedly a lot of car clubs and some smaller shows are finding things difficult as a lot of people these days don't have the spare time for attending meetings/organising events etc.. or at least in this area anyway.

I wouldn't say that, the VW scene seems to be going strongly with lots of new "young" blood coming in all the time ;D I do agree though that the culture for bolt on from Halfords is on the increase, but the cars of today will be the classics of..................well sometime, maybe the year 3000 when everything is teleport machines and hovercars

Plus I think the fact that Retro Cars Mag and Practical Performance cars magazine as well as one make mags such as Classic Ford are able to continue to sell well and be read by so many just goes to show that the scene is far from dieing.

My (uber-dyslexic) friends type everything up in Word or similar first to correct the spelling before posting - may be worth a try?
(note to Mr. Susan - it's a helpful suggestion, not an invitation for charver-style random threats of violence against strangers.)

The car scene isnt dieing, however it is getting diluted by a very large number of chavvy style cars. I'm 22 and i got my car featured in retro cars at 21, and it was supa low budget rat turbo stylee!
I know plenty of people my age who love their retro cars, off the top of my head between me and my mates - Mk1 escy with a 2l pinto, a skud, lancia delta turbo, Mk1 fiesta (gonna be gawwwwwjus), Mk2 XR2, sierra XR4x4, granada V6, 205 gti with an Mi16, and of course my two hillmans!
I think that single makes scenes such as VW and Ford are geting swamped by the different and previously unheard of J scene, and new areas such as the hood ride / rat look, bozo, cleaned, and berg cup.
If anything i think its growing rapidly and diversifying and an unheard of rate!
J

I'm 18 and the ImpClub seems to have quite a large input of young owners. I know a few other young retro lovers as well. don't think the numbers are dropping, its just society is changing- people are happy to take but not put back thus clubs and shows are dwindling and dieing.

I wonder how many people are going to more smaller/informal internet arranged meets, and not bothering with the bigger shows, particularly those that are 'static'
I think RWYB are also becoming more poular with different groups of car enthusiasts than previously?
