*Page 3 and 2021 for the arrival of the Red Starlet This is a doubling up of a quick introduction/history of my motors and specifically my erstwhile daily runabout / retro rally car / sometime autotest competitor Here's a couple of shot's of my Starlet in action and a youtube link of me competing in it on a rally. It's no beauty but can take a brilliant amount of abuse without breaking which is essential given my lack of mechanical nous. [/img] I bought this car in 2007 when I started to take up retro rallying and autotesting after I was informed that my 325i was less that competitive following my maiden run out at an event. (although massive fun! - one shot of it below) During that time I had a 1977 911SC which was my pride and joy but I've just recently sold that and the BMW as I've jumped out of the rat race for the year and am back in college. However, I bought a Toyota 1000 (KP30) a few months back with the intention of building a new rally car and with the sale of my other rides this has morphed from a quick job into a full strip and rebuild with some tasty parts (I'll stick up another build thread about that once I get my photos together) Last week I also managed to be "donated" a rotten 197something (still looking for the log book) 4dr KE20 Corolla. I had originally planned up stripping it for spare parts for the KP but the amount of usable items is limited so I'm currently mulling over whether or not to have a go at fixing it or scraping it. (It really is far gone!) Reason I've stuck the starlet up is that I'm planning on a refresh and possible raft of modifications now that I've another rally car on the way and also that my gf has given me the run of her car on a daily basis. Iād still like to use the starlet competitively from time to time so I can't slam it and fit wide rims but I'm open to suggestions on the modification front. Thanks for looking all and input greatly appreciated

The Starlet is going for it's NCT next week and given that I'm waiting for the KP to come back from my friends place I'll have the chance to crack on with the modifications if the Starlet gets the all clear.
It passed the test last May but its had a few hard events in the interim period so fingers are well and truly crossed. It's a pain that I have to have it done again so soon as these are usually every 2 years in Ireland but they are dependant upon the date of manufacture rather than the date of test and this had been in a field for a couple of years prior to my rescue.

ra28 - Thanks but tbh I've still a long way to go in the autotesting to get close to the best lads. - I'm more competitive on the special tests and Night Nav's though which keeps me in it.
Terraroot - You have pm
Leigh - Hope to have the KP back by the end of the month to start mocking up - Can't wait

Went for the NCT today and was mechanically perfect -- woo hoo!!!, but failed because of a new rule that says the back seats have to be installed - ball sack! but an easy fix none the less.
This would be fine if not for the fact that the tester managed to curse word my steering lock somehow after the test when attempting to move the car out of the centre - now the car is stuck there as I've to drive to the far side of the country for a wedding.
I'm a little miffed but happy that the old dog is still in good shape.

that's a very cool starlet doctor! hmm... nice idea with the golf arch mouldings, I'm sure they could be modified to fit better too. thebaron: i assume it's got a 1.0 or 1.3 carb engine, how about a 1.3 efi 16v from a Gi/glanza-S (non turbo), or a 1.5 (cynos)

oh yeah, the 4E-FE is a nice engine! I've got an intakemanifold for 2 Weber carbs for such an engine if you want! It's no use for me, i might be tempted to sell it for little money

Doctor, that starlet is spot on - loving it and the golf arch idea is a great tip as I've be trying to figure out what arches I would fit.
Conrad, It's the 1.3 Carb. I'm now thinking I might keep this one prepped for the rallies and about starting a second starlet project now as a road only one with an engine change so I can get it nice and low on some decently wide rubber.
I've a friend with a Cynos engined one which is an absolute rocket but I like the idea of carbing a 4e-fe so I might get back to you Doctor about that intake manifold !!

the front arches are ok, the rear do get an awkward shape with the flares, i'll try to dig up the pictures i made from my car when i taped the arches on (never got round to fitting them, i killed the engine before that, still miss it ).

Just want to say that i love these shape starlets, i have a 5dr 1995 one myself as a daily. the 1.3 engine thats in it is quite quick for its size. have often thought of doing a few bits and pieces to it. i.e different wheels and a small bit of lowering and a splitter. Money is the main deterrant lol.Want to get my polo sorted before i can think bout that. Will keep an eye out for the road one. Best of luck.

I briefly drove one (among others) that had a carina II 1.6 16v engine in it, which was quick, but dunno how it'd be on the road, that was strictly for tearin up my friend's farm and forest tracks, cage, knobbly tyres and the rest. Never owned one myself with more than the standard 1.3 carb but the best ones a i ever had a spin of were a 1.3 efi conversion (engine from a 90s "Gi") and a gt turbo engined one, which was fast but dangerous.

Back for the re-test today and passed. Road legal now - just in time for some summer events.

13 months on and I still haven't picked up the car. I have paid for it but due to life I just haven't had the chance to go and collect it.
This is a message to myself more than anything else to go and get it this Christmas.

Confirmed collection next Thursday afternoon (29th).
Very excited now. One part of the delay in collecting this car was the purchase of a house with a separate garage. Now that I'm back in Ireland for Christmas I'm prepping the garage to accept it's new resident.
I'll get 5 days to blat around the country roads in my neck of the woods before going back to Switzerland in Jan. This is going to be good.
