Right...I spent a lot of today at work sketching out ideas for the Shuv and daydreaming. The pinnacle of this was looking at photos of a Lexus V8 and wondering if the following would work: Radiator in boot or where fuel tank was (vertical, behind the rear seat with ducting from each rear window then exiting from the rear panel) Battery where rear seat should be. Likewise for fuel tank/swirl pot/pumps. Cage Floor-mounted race seat set really far back (I have the stock seat so far back my head sits just behind the B pillar as it is) CV joint on the steering column, extending the (removable) wheel right back, supertouring style. Supra 'box Manta axle or supra axle modified to be 4x100... Lexus V8 Serpentine belt (C) One Eaton M45 for each bank of the V8. (B) Intakes pointing into a sealed airbox. (A) Cowl induction into sealed airbox The Engine would fit front-to-back with about 25mm to spare...A bit of bulkhead massaging (or just plain angle-grinder work) would set it further back and possibly allow a front-mounted radiator. Good idea? Stupid idea? Must-Be-Done idea that is both good and stupid? And I definitely want HSR arches now... *n

must be done idea that is both good and stupid. not stupid as in like retarded just stupid as in a fair chunk of work. but i say do it:) does it have to be a lexus v8?

strewth, thats a lot of work! incredible if you did it tho. you might be better off with one large blower or, if you must have twins, 2 centrifugal blowers hung on the side of the engine. that would help to squeeze it in the engine bay.

Stop stealing my ideas I figure, however, the immense amount of heat generated by a blown lump might still provide cooling issues.....not just the radiator, but the heat in the bay itself. However, by running the radiator in the boot the coolant disperses a fair amount of heat over that distance of piping. You want it far back as possible mind, otherwise it'll just fubar the handling. It's light, but not light enough that in the original position you'll retain any semblance of handling. I think it's mandatory you'll have to hack the bulkhead to shift it backwards. Run out of things to say now ;D

It would be a 12 month project...
Lexus V8 because they're cheap, strong and powerful.
Likewise, the M45 is cheap and readily available. Run them at around 7psi.
The other choice for a blower would be a Jag Eaton M92(?)
As for clearance issues, the HSR bonnet would give me a bit more clearance in the middle but I'd happily have a bulge at either side.

The idea with the low-pressure blowers would be to improve efficiency and volume of air shifted which shouldn't cause too many heat issues.

Two supercharger is something I've thought about for a while.. As said 2x centrifugal blowers takes up alot less room

Yes but have you seen the price of centrifugal blowers?
If it comes to £200 and some lumps on the bonnet vs. £1500 I'll have a lumpy bonnet.
I'd only really want to go centrifugal if I were using silly psi levels.

Id move the motor back by modding the bulkhead and stick the rad up front. Otherwise great!

True enough. Guess we shouldn't forget the AM Vantage motor. Probably closer (in layout) to what you want to do.

sounds absolutley spot on, the blowers are pretty efficient and should work very well. I would suggest running intercoolers as i always do, its not essential but it is a very good safety net. Here is a tuning article on the 1uz-fe engine, tells you all you need to know Right ive tried repetedly to get this the same size as the other scans but now all i want to do is hit the computer, its not playing the game and can fu*king stick it. Sorry rant over! these scans are courtesy of zoom magazine australia J

lexus motor is quite compact as you need to move the bulkhead back anyway cut it out fit the engine with the rad up front then put the bulk head back in in the new position and bobs your aunt fannys live in lover ;D

I think that in theory it's a fugging ace idea.
But I think the cost involved may be more scary than you have factored. Also, do you have the space, time & requisite engineering skills to carry it out?
Sorry to piss on your chips a bit.... just want you to be 100% sure you can see it through and not end up turning a decent car into a cat-piss-stained-tarpaulin-covered garden ornament.....

Toyota Quad Cam V8's are a good choice for width, sure you might need a bit of massaging here and there but just be thankful you're not using a Nissan Quad Cam V8, they're slightly wider, which is the reason why one of the DOCNZ guys is putting a Toyota V8 in his Datsun 1200 Ute instead of a Nissan V8, regardless it should be almost as fun in a shuvit as it would be in a 1200 ute, I say go for it!
