Chassis looks like a Morris 8 Series E to me...
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

One of the most memorable car reviews I've ever read was for one of these. The line from that review that sticks with me most is:
"They've not only captured the look and feel of '50's Russian farm tractor, but the smell as well"
A friend of mine bought one on the strength of that line.

niva's are still available new ! As advertised by the Village People! Repeat after me: Y-M-C-A L-A-D-A! And then there's this oddity I've plucked out of my 'Mystery Car' pile: the Chevrolet Niva: A joint venture between AutoVAZ and GM. Don't be fooled by the new body, it's stiil the same old sperate chassis Lada Niva underneath.

Nivas are seriously cramped inside. Compared to series/defender landrovers they are cavernous. you can do lots of wheel twirling in a niva that you can't do in a landrover without reconstructive surgery to your elbows

It looks to me like it could be saved, but chances are its been scrapped on paper, as they keep the cars that are for sale whole in a different area. However I can always ask the question, as I get on well with the guy who runs the place.

Lada Nivas were the first Lada I ever heard of and almost certainly the only one I've seen in real life, as I'm pretty sure they were the only Lada imported here. They have a certain cult following, and I'd probably own one although I would prefer a Suzuki Sierra or LJ80 if I was going to have a miniscule Jeep-like thing. May as well go the whole hog though and get a 40-series Land Cruiser, much more capable and not much bigger or more expensive around here. And a million times easier to find parts for!

You call yourself an Australian and you don't know about the LADA Samara? ;D They even had Peter Perfect pushing it at one point. www.championsbrockexperience.com.au/road/88_lada_Samara.htmAlthough it has to be said this was post polarizer and at a point where the motoring industry thought he had lost his marbles.

Sorry mate, I had completely forgotten about these. They were long before my time though and I've only ever seen a picture of one. I don't think that Brock's attempts to endear them to the buying public were successful!
