I've just heard about this, what an awful thing to happen. This project is one of my favourite builds, and I have so much admiration for you taking it on, Mel.
For everyone who has lost projects / tools / belongings in this fire, I'll gladly help out in any way I can.

I've checked into this thread about nine times since yesterday in the hope it was just some bizarre dream. In my post stag do stupor (not mine *hic* ) I've checked in again hoping it was just some awful dream. Being my all time favourite Retro Rides Readers Rides type thread of all time I've been left speechless. Virtual 'non-gay' internet hugs abound.

I'll try setting up a just giving or some fund today. Maybe tools donation drive might be useful to arrange.

Did'nt comment on this yesterday as i found it hard to know what to say, also hard to look at the pics and think about the cars/projects gone. I can only echo what everyone else has said I'll try setting up a just giving or some fund today. Maybe tools donation drive might be useful to arrange. I happily contribute to that

Likewise...more than happy to contribute. Can't even imagine how bad this must feel. What it has made me want to do is check with the people where I store my car, and possibly my insurance people, what the arrangements are for cover.
I had my previous car in at a rod builders for over 10 years, in storage and being worked on, and I never checked if he was insured...

I think a collection for a Halfords 150 toolkit would get most people at least back on their feet in basic maintenance scopes, good plan?

Yeah me three - I'll get by. I don't really need tools any more (lets out rather ironic laugh) and the car is insured, although, in my experience, it's a bit of a lottery getting paid out, certainly won't be anywhere near that bundle of receipts. Like Mel says, get your cars insured and take lots of pictures of where it is and what condition its in.

I just don't know what to write. Apart from "I'm so sorry" which, in the circumstances, sounds so lame.
This particular thread was always an inspiration to me. That "no matter what you start with, just fix it anyway" attitude is brilliant. A lesson to us all. It's one of the reasons I joined, got a project car, and am misguided enough to think I can do it too.
I wish all of you the very best and hope you all get back on your feet soon.
James

Aw curse word, I was hoping you'd open the workshop up to find the car untouched...must be devastating. My thoughts are with you and for what it's worth, I'd donate to a collection if it means that you can at least get a decent toolkit together again.

Really saddened to hear this. Mel, I'm impressed with your positive attitude to the situation - keep smiling man. Here's hoping something good comes of this sad scenario, eventually.

Heartbreaking read, had loved reading DrDicks mustang thread especially, genuinely gutted to read of this. If anything it's made me go ahead and order the Halon extinguisher system I'd talked myself out of needing. All this being said, it is an invigorating and powerful thing to *have* to start totally a new. I hope you guys can dry the tears, let your imaginations run wild and are able to find the stomach to do create rides that are harder, better, faster and lower than the last. Cliche as it is, the all consuming nature of fire really does give all three of you a totally fresh slate. I would let the eBay watch lists run crazy over the next couple of months Hope the seriously hurt chap is on the mend and that their injuries weren't as serious as first appeared. Add me to the donations list for them Hotwire.

So gutted for you all, but if anything good can come out of it, hopefully everyone has had a good look at their insurance details! This thread was an inspiration to everyone, so I shall wait and see what comes next with baited breath!

To all the guys that have lost tools and cars in the fire I am so sorry for you. That is devastating and I feel for you.
As someone who has sat at work to get a phone call from the wife to say the garage is on fire, get home now, I know exactly what your going through. No car in there at that stage, just all my tools, car related stuff and bikes ( including a nice BMX that my son had just finished rebuilding, imaging having to break that to him after school). I don't post very often, but do visit the site a couple of times a day minimum, and the insperation I get from the site is really important to keep me going with my 100e project.
The reason for the post in this thread is to let the guys know that while its cr@p now, things get sorted and the chance of a project will always be just round the corner, but to also echo what has been said by others. CHECK YOUR INSURANCE POLICIES!!!! My fire was started by a Beko fridge freezer, and while most of the tools were covered, the building and contents policy actually excluded all motorised vehicle parts and accessories! This means anything specifically related to cars, wasn't covered, even down to roof bars and cycle carriers!
When I started asking around my friends after the fire, their insurance was the same but none of them realised. I hope that no one ever has to go through what I and the guys have had to, but if we can warn people of this and save somone from loosing their stuff through it not being covered it may just help to make something positive out of this.
Sorry for the long post, but this is a subject close to my heart. Anyway all the best to you guys, hope it all gets sorted and you get back on your feet soon.
Rich.
