I used to have a 1.6gl like this one 20 years ago I used to have a ti like this one 15 years ago I quite like this I liked this until it became this but all I can afford is this ;D

So let me get this straight.... You're saving it? I like that plan. It's mad, but in a good way. ;D Edit: At least the welds weren't ground back, so you know where to cut!

You are completely mental, in the best possible way. Top work. For the rear lights, how about using land rover rear lights, like the works MK1 escort rally cars

Nice to see it being saved, years ago I used to have a 1600TI with a tuned 2.0 pinto, stupidly quick and spent most of its life sideways. Also did you know that the prop shaft on them are interchangeable with ones from mk1 & mk2 escorts.

For the rear lights, how about using land rover rear lights, like the works MK1 escort rally cars I was considering flush mounting these as they were £29 delivered a pair and good rear lights have been going for up to £70 each on ebay but i picked up an ok pair for a shade under £50 inc postage. with a cycle through the dishwasher and a touch of paint around the edge they will be more than good enough. the oem lights have the bonus of covering the edges of the apertures if i make a b4lls up also in the pic is the £4.99 ebay bargain windscreen conveniently only 15 miles from where i had to take a van to for work i also gave the seller £15 for half a front valence and half a front chassis leg just in case ;D this is where the collecting of bits started before i even got a shell, a nearly new aftermarket propshaft £1.29 from ebay but the vendor spat his dummy when i tried to send my own courier so £26.29 total cost this purchase meant i had to buy a car to fit it to second purchase was a mojo booster after 3 months of looking for the right car. nos mountney steering wheel boss £13 after purchase i found the pcd was 100mm not the 70mm needed for the 'sparco' ebay special i had set my heart on and 294 came with a mountney boss and wheel ;D not expecting progress for a while as i have to get my camper out of hibernation in time for the long bank holiday weekend. oh and pick up a few more bits and bobs tomorrow evening total time (with dirty hands) 6 hrs total spend £385 (rear lights already included)

That looks like a proper hatchet job. Massive kudos for doing something with it but what exactly are you doing? Back to pristine like the white one or......... ....... ;D not sure how straight it will look when finished. my bodywork skills are limited to say the least, and i've only ever spray painted some furniture for work and some climbing frames i made. the main areas of rectification i can see are: the roof is a fairly dented all over above the ex filler hole is pushed in 3 inches deep the size of a football (doesn't really show in the pics). the main ugly bit is the door shut area (b pillar?) on the rear quarters, there is a lot of rippling and distortion from the welding which i guess is going to be a challenge its all tonybmws fault. my ego tells me if some geezer on the internet can do it then so can I. . . . . . . . I'm used to making a tw@ of myself ;D
