Mel
I find that the straight wire brushes are more user friendly than the cup type that you are using, they don't vibrate as much either

Mel Its a good job my bloke is taking a while to finish painting the Mustang because even squeezing in a model of it looks to be difficult at the moment! Seriously though, I am off work next Thursday/Friday so if you want a bit of help tidying/throwing away or even welding then I'm around. I do love a tidy workshop me!

thanks benny tony - do you mean the twist bevel brush type? i have been using the cheap cup type as they are a lot less aggressive and i was worried about moving metal about with the tougher 'bristles' they would shed less though you are spot on about the vibration, i had tingling hands for ages yesterday rich - some of us have a job to (occasionally) go to you about friday night for beer?

last friday i had a few hours spare so popped to the unit for a bit luckily i had also had a late night visit earlier in the week to tidy up a bit, so work could start immediately where the rear brake lights had been welded , the roof skin and tailgate aperture had suffered nearside both skins needed patches let in lack of easy access and fairly poor focus on my part means i will need to go back and tidy this up a bit before paint i find it difficult to hold back from just filling the hole up with something, even when i know that i will wish i had done a better job other side was a bit better and the roof skin seems ok filled this in but workshop cam is elsewhere and my new improved phonecam was let down by titchy phone memory , so no more pics i also need to decide if the centre needs repair or not. a good poke next time will tell all total time spent 377 hours (still whiney, mostly sauvignon blanc ;D) total spend £2426 . pair of three point harnesses included, £4.26 posted for a 8gb teensy weensy sd card not included

More progress! Nice one Mel.
Just received phone call from body man, my car has 2 holes left in it that need welding and most of the rest of it is in polyester. So when I said it was miles from being done a couple of weeks back then I may have jumped the gun.

Is it just me, or are the repairs getting smaller? That can only be a good thing.

If you have tingling fingers after a session with the grinder, wear gloves and keep your hands warm while working as it sounds like you are heading for "white finger" and that is something you really do not want Ttfn Glenn

thanks for the advice Glen - i find having 2months off cuts down on the white finger issue ;D only a update to say i have not done anything useful a visiting car has meant that the 'booth' had to be cleared, and the junk stored elsewhere the resulting chaos made it necessary to have few days of tidying so my car was accessible. 80% tidied wait whats that? i have spent so long looking at it without doing anything, drastic measures had to be taken. only the interior and engine bay but a list to guide me is a new thing and hopefully will spur on some progress alternatively having DrDick around will mean lots of coffee drinking ;D

That list belies how far you have come with this. It'll be a great sense of achievment when you roll out of the MOT station, certificate in hand. Obviously, theres a way to go yet, but still.
Hope the white finger eases meaning you can rattle along with it.

white finger i can live with, constant rain (indoors as well ) i can't need to sort some better lighting as well. the mental picture of a minty fresh car burbling away from the mot station is appealing unfortunately the bad voice in my head wants to see just how far i can push the 'if its not there you cant test it' principle ;D

Yay, update, keep up the great work.
You may not want to live with white finger of death though. I have Raynauds which is the non-industrial type and it is a curse word, particularly in winter.
Anyway, you'd best get back to fixing that Sunbeam, plenty left to do!

Mrx - In infant school I used to write in mirror image, but this was at a time before anyone knew how to spell dyslexia I have managed to raise my game but never got round to medical school often I am unable to read what I have written always makes me feel a little bit smaller inside when someone points out my disability all true apart from the self esteem issues, I have come to terms with the fact I can't be perfect in every way please send me sympathy, car parts or welding wire to the usual address ;D

Oh curse word, a list, that's kinda serious. I've made one too but being retentive I did it in Excel. Be round Friday with cash, a 500w floor standing lamp and my own list. Item 1, make more light appear. Item 2, email bloke who was supposed to send me a big load of nuts and bolts from America 4 weeks ago......... I can't read my own writing sometimes either, but I'm just a scruffy curse word.
