I guess it's not really the way he wanted to do it, and there are frightful stories about some dipping's aftermath.
Plus how could you get the shell out of the acid bath when not even half of it remains ? ;D

noticed the scrape marks and wood chisel sitting on the floor pan, may I be as bold to offer some mojo conserving advice.
on my first astra I softened the bitumen pads with a plumbers blow lamp then scraped it up with putty knife. you are left with some residue which wipes off with some solvent on blue roll. second astra I went a bit health and safety with a paint stripping heat gun, worked just as well though. get the surface bubbling, slide your scraper under it goes like cake icing.

@tattoostudio - was supposed to be a quick and low budget build but it has all gone horribly wrong ;D reckon that there isn't any serious rot left in the shell -welding left to do = the inner wheel tub , the top of the tailgate aperture, a patch on the inner sill inside the car, and possibly replacing parts of the top of the rear panel. plus anything else that turns up plus all the panels that bolt on Clement - dipping would have been easier but i could not justify the expense or find the moneyI like a challenge darrenh - you can just see a bit of my heatgun in the first pic of my last post I am a dab hand at underseal/sound deadening removal now, and worryingly I find it quite therapeutic heat gun on full blast and a slightly blunt chisel kept in the hot air flow makes it a piece of cake just very smelly. the residue will get a rub over with a mix of panel wipe , celly thinners, white spirit and any other solvents I have laying around also - what makes you think you can help my mojo by giving me advice after I have done it all ;D tonybmw - I agree with you too

I know, ive seen them for like £5 to £7 each......and whats more, if i remember right he only charges for postage on 2, as they come in their own box.
Hope you love em as much as i do........just remember to use em on nooks and crannies first while they still have an edge.

Dave - wish my car was as complete as yours, and moted for that matter thetattoostudio - not a bad price. i used one in the engine bay but i was a little disappointed with its wear rate considering i had paid 6-7 quid for it. this may well be due to operator error i may invest again when i do the exterior, but the inside doesn't need to be completely bare metal = so i will take the cheap option gurnersimps1963 - thanks, liking your honda btw drdick - all in good time we both know the reason you want me to gee up my build i am not going to jeopardize my potential pebble beach winner just so you can have some space to throw together your tatty old shopping car ;D

i had an appointment this morning so only got to work at 1pm. i stopped for a chat and a root through my latest car related deliveries, then as there was little interesting to do, i wandered over to my unit. still buffing the inside buffed to window height wire brush in grinder at eye level gave me the $hittz so i used a scraper and white spirit to get the worst off the roof and then ran a sander over it. a similar lack of moral fortitude led me to hand sand from waist height up that's all i could handle for today i felt completely demoralized because there is loads more to do before i can throw paint on the inside I'm also really annoyed that i am working in a pigsty 'spray booth' is junk store i was covered from head to toe in crud i had o.d.ed on redbull substitute and wire wheel 'offshoots' and i was down to dust in my baccy pouch as well probably the worst thing is the pestilence my daughter has brought home from school. yesterday i felt like i had flu and a red wine hangover. today the hangover feeling is worse, although to be fair its self inflicted ;D total time spent 373 hours (bemoaning my fate in a whiney little voice ) total spend £2391 . will add paint and loads of other toss later £120 of rustoleums finest , 240 sanding belts , 10 kg welding wire and 2 sets of drill bits £51. still need to catch up with all the random toss thrown in my office
