just got back from a ebay parts pickup run. o/s wing ,well used lotus struts with roller topmounts and a large amount of random stuff. I'm well pleased. great value even for the workout of lifting it into the van. due to worlds slowest spinter and a satnav from hell I couldnt face unloading in the dark. pics and a sensible inventory will have to wait. I did notice another propshaft though as long as my camper isnt too broken I may take it on a shakedown run to work in the morning. not that i'm gagging to fondle my new(old) shiney(rusty) bits(bits) .... or anything thanks to those of you who are questioning my sanity - its nice to agree with someone for a change ;D total time (with dirty hands) 6 hrs total spend £620(inc fuel, dartford tollx2, starbarx1, toffee crispx1, tangox330ml)

Hi Mate, Just seen the lights you have bought. I bought some old Taxi lights last year for the trailer , and was happy to use them as they were, then Mark (Nightmares) mopped them and the difference is worth the effort, so you could polish them too, and have them go from this: To this:

Hi Mate, .....mopped them and the difference is worth the effort, so you could polish them too ....... the oem lights are ribbed so it would be tricky to do. your lights are shiny though can you get polishing wheels for a draper rotary multi-tool? (other brands of rotary multitool are available, but not from my in-laws ) must have a look in the box and check, i've never found an occasion to use it till now

I wonder if you'd get similar results using a cloth and some T-cut? It'd take longer but you'd get into all the ribs, whereas you couldn't if you used a mop.
I dunno, seems bizarre that we're discussing methods of polishing tail lights when the car is in the condition it is at the moment! ;D Still, doesn't hurt to plan ahead.

went to get my camper out of hibernation this morning. even though it has been shuffled about every couple of months the battery was shot and all the water has fallen out. so I took a trip to the local motor factors for a battery and some antifreeze. £70 lighter I took the bus for a spin to work. spent a couple of hours unloading the van and sorting through the bits I picked up yesterday. various bits of glass, not sure I will be using them on this build, the door bars on the cage mean no windey(sp?) windows so perspex all round or not I do like to hang my arm out :-) lots of lovely rubber including windscreen seals springs, calipers and a block stiffener for a lotus engine o/s wing in good condition apart from a 50p sized rust hole. one panel down steering racks and columns with switchgear and some wiper mechanisms disks hubs drums and servos and the odd couple of clutches three boxes of assorted bits of random trim pair of pedal boxes lotus struts/springs - look a bit knackered but wanted the roller top mounts as they made a huge difference to the steering weight on my ti radiators (mostly fooked) and starter motors the obligatory steering wheel boss and prop shaft (i have 3 of each now ;D) all put away for later, there was also a pair of stainless bumpers and a load of interior plastic trims not shown. nearly there apart from a wing, 2 doors, some front lights, a front grill and a year off to finish it anyone know what this is? looks like a very expensive breather hose to me. my next job was to give the camper a spring clean. . . . . . . . so out came the grinder instead ;D wing rail is a lot more fragile this side, a lot of it is just crust - no metal at all a post looks much better this side though whats behind door no2? lots of surface rust is the answer and another holey sill I was deciding whether to clean out the interior or get out the forklift when the heavens opened so back to bed till next time total time (with dirty hands) 8 hrs (not including playing with my parts ) total spend £620

a few exterior pics of my budget transit camper which i fitted out last summer. windy dark and raining when i put the vinyls on, so gave up before fitting the green flame on the nearside. when i went back to finish i couldnt decide wich side i prefered- so i left it as is. still not sure, mostly because lining up the second layer is a pain in the bum - i did very badly the first time and had to go again. i also hate signwriting vans ;D does my bum look big in this? moss on the inside stopped at my parents to clean the inside, but found evidence of rodent activity so will now turf the whole lot out in the morning. before setting off. with a hangover the only way to start a bank holiday weekend away off to the pub now ;D

Bookmarked.....you're mental mad mate!
Always had a soft spot for these ever since I went with my Girlfriend (now my wife!) to buy a 'T' reg 1.6 GLS in the early 80's. She had that car for years and was a fantastic workhorse. (The car, that is.....not my wife...although she don't do too bad)
Really looking forward to seeing what you can do with this one!

after a week of being filled with cold and busy at work i've been gagging to crack on with the beam. friday (it was today before i buggered my photobucket album up ) i had the joyful news that my working day didn't start until 8.30 pm 130 miles away buoyed up by Ashrocco's first play day thread i decided i would take the opportunity to have a bit of a spring clean fuel tank out one of the many snail colonies living in the car :- now rehoused in delightful rural surroundings much better

still not time for work and this looks a bit messy too.. ......and I did put the forklift on charge when I got in this morning apparently the gearbox is full of a water and oil emulsion the true horror of which I will not be aware of until later please don't try this at home . I have few resources and a brain the size of a pea. also my bosses insurance will pay off my loved ones in the event of injury/death if I am on company property.... during my normal working day ;D gearbox mount is a piece of inch angle with half the angle cut off. the chap I bought the car of did say it might need beefing up prop centre bearing bolted straight to the floor the drivertrain all seems to be at very unusual angles! the whole rear half of the n/s inner and outer sill has gone bye bye

first job was to remove the propshaft. this could have gone more smoothly with a bit of forethought I undid the rubber donut bolts and found I couldn't get to the last one without turning the propshaft I then tried to undo the prop to diff bolts. they strangly appeared to be smaller than 13mm (or 1/2" ) but bigger than 7/16ths or (12mm). after borrowing a friendly mechanics selection of oddball imperial spanners I got one undone. on checking in daylight the nut now fitted a 1/2" spanner perfectly . i removed the other bolts except for the one I couldn't undo without rotating the propshaft. so I tried to undo the centre bearing to drop the rear spider out of the way. the bolts for this of course are just straight through the floorpan much hilarity and spanner wedging ended in this. propshaft out.

with time ticking i needed to get a shift on gearbox supported and rear mount undone bit of chain slung round the engine at what i hoped would be a suitable balance point (it wasn't ;D) this is where the perfect balance point i had achieved started to be an issue. because the the engine/box wanted to be level it would not lift out, no matter how hard i tried ;D my favorite point was when the gearbox caught and the forklift (engine hoist) lifted the front wheels off the axle stands (pallets). after lowering everything i used a bit of leverage to ease the gearbox on its way back to bed til next time. please ignore the engine and interior toss under the tarp. i ran out of free time i had go home before starting work to have a bit of a wash, rolling about in the nasty gearbox fluid left me too grubby even by my standards total time spent(grubby all over) 12 hours total spend £620 (or £850, not sure yet )
