Yes I've heard about that law in Tokyo and some other cities in Japan. Due to the overcrowding you need proof of permit for a car parking space/area.
HOWEVER if car is below certain length it is excempt ...is this why MINI sold so well in Japan?

Thats why they have those 600cc micro car things in Japan - Tokyo rules. When my bro lived in Tokyo (working for Nissan at the time) he didn't have a car as it was far to expensive.
Allt hese Japanese laws, makes you glad you live here doesn't it?

Nah, we'd sit and moan for a bit and then just accept it. Thats what we do every time they chip a little more of our freedoms away.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

reanimation in da house: i think we ignore what goes on in politic until its too lateIn the late 80's here in Sweden the social democrats (psychopaths) tried to stop all modification of cars & bikes but with the help of the christ democrats (cruisaders of freedom!?!?!) we got an organisation SFRO www.sfro.com that does pre-registration inspections on cars & bikes that have been altered that they can't be concidered a regular production vehicle anymore, this makes it possible to build almost anyhing as long as it's road safe and conforms to certaing regs. We did NOT bend over at take up the........ DP says: Swedes are known the be The lagom people but Rodders don't accept that....

Well done to the swedes! As for this country, yep perhaps you (alistairk, reamination) are right we'd moan a bit and then bend over and take it up ...etc...etc..

SFRO sounds a bit like SVA. Sadly unless some modifcations are made to SVA regs to allow it to apply to older cars it will mean a right PITA for us.
What we need is a bit of the French protesting spirit. A lot of people diss the French but their government can't steamroller legislation and regs onto them without a fight...
FWIW I have nothing against a test or examination to show that a car is safe. What I do object to is having to use modern "E" marked lighting on a 40 or 50 year old car, modern door handles, etc. none of which matter a damn in reality. So long as standards of "safe" are properly introduced its all good. I'm sure we've all seen dubious engineering on modified cars in the past. For example, any car whos steering linkages are closer to the ground than the full suspension deflection... Stuff like that is fair comment, its just a potential accident waiting to happen. a requirement for minimum depth of padded dash tops or whatever is just too far...

bet he curses when he gets a puncture ;D but aint it gorgeous? Problem is if that tyre blows out at any speed the body will hit the deck not the rim. Thats potentially lethal. Lovely looking car, but another 2" or 3" ride height in the back would make it safe as well...

hotwire in da house: thats the best Beetle roof chop I've ever seen,...
It's awesome but somwhere in the back of my head something says that the Bug was chopped and semi-finished in Sweden or the States and then shiped out to Japan, not 100% and I can be totally of on this but it's still one of the nicest Chopped Bugs around....
DP says: You don't do that with a can opener......
