Funny looking thing aren't they, like a cross between the Dolomite and the 2000.
IIRC One of these got smashed up in a recent car insurance advert on tele, LV?

Yep, I would guess the add was made in SA as the cost would be cheap. I think they ran a 1275 engine. My dad said they were supremely comfortable.

I'm sure the one my Dad had was a bright green colour. I can remember him getting done for speeding in it when i was in the car, i was only 7 at the time so it probably created the wrong impression given my own record for acquiring speeding convictions!
I'm assuming that these are FWD? My description of an Austin 1100/1300 middle with Triumph front and back end styling was pretty accurate having now seen the pictures!

Probably Spain as they werermade there too.
My neice had an Apache in SA. I would love to get one as a project and fit VDP 1300 interior and grill - make a very smart little limo.

Lets see if this copies and pastes.
The Austin Apache was designed by Michelotti in 1970, alongside the almost identical Austin Victoria, and was produced by Leyland South Africa at their Blackheath plant from 1971 until the mid Seventies.
Like the Victoria, the Apache is a well-disguised Austin 1300, with extended nose and tails sections grafted on. The centre section is virtually unaltered, howewever, so the doors are a bit of a giveaway. Not much more to say about it really, but here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.
Publicity photos
UK Apaches
This splendid Apache is owned by Jason Heaton, who lives in Salford, Manchester. These photographs were taken when the car belonged to previous owner Martin Williamson, who received it as a 21st birthday present while he was living in South Africa. Martin later brought it with him when relocated to the UK, and sold it to Jason Heaton in 2002, as he wasn't getting much opportunity to drive it.
This Apache image was taken from Graham Robson's book, and as can be seen, it has been the subject of a colour change since its appearance in print.
With thanks to Martin Williamson for the images of his former car.
From WIKIPEDIA as well.
ADO16 overseas The Austin Victoria was a Pamplona assembled ADO16, introduced in 1972 with an restyled front end and a lengthened rear luggage compartment.
The car was sold with various names in different markets.
In Spain it was sold as Morris, Austin and MG, starting production in the Pamplona Authi (Automóviles de Turismo Hispano Ingleses) factory in 1966,[15][16][17][18], and evolving by 1972 into the Austin Victoria.
In Denmark the ADO16 bore the Morris Marina name. The MG models were sold as the MG Sports Sedan there, as it was in North America from 1962, and was available with a two-door bodyshell that would not be available in the UK until 1968. The Vanden Plas Princess was briefly the MG Princess 1100 in North America, while that market also saw an unusual two-door Austin 1100 (with a hybrid of Mark I and Mark II components).
The Austin America was sold in the US, Canada and Switzerland between 1968 and 1972. This two door version of the car featured a 60 bhp (45 kW) 1275 cc engine. Various modifications were made to suit the perceved eccentricities of the US market incuding an "anti-pollution air injection system", a split circuit braking system, rocker switches in place of some of the dashboard mounted knobs, a "hazard warning system" and flush door locks[19].
The ADO16 also formed the basis of the Australian Morris 1500 sedan, Morris 1300 sedan and Morris Nomad five door, the Italian Innocenti Morris IM3 and Austin I4 and I5, the more powerful South African Austin, Morris and Wolseley 11/55 and Austin Apache and the Spanish Austin Victoria and the Austin de Luxe of 1974 to 1977, which had a 998 cc engine.
The Austin Apache was produced until 1977, the last of the ADO16 line.

I reckon that Apache in the LV ad was a UK car...I seem to remember an Apache in a previous UK based ad too. Always makes me sad that advert.

I have to admit (shoot me down in flames for saying this) i'd rather have an Apache than a UK ADO16, they just look so right!!

it was shot in sa , as in the long version the volvo's last impact is the briefest glimpse of a mk3 or 4 cortina bakkie (pickup). also sure i've read somewhere that some had the 1500 maxi eng/box fitted.

We had a thread on this not long back. That advert was apparently made in Spain (or South Africa, can't remember which now) as it's cheap there - and a 70s Apache is still a cheap runabout!?!
Austin (or Authi) Victoria was the B series 1500 version - Australia only I think. Different styling, hatchback, distinctly uglier.
Must dash, dinner's burning...........!
