Came up with this slightly rubbish idea,
pass on one piece of advice when it comes to working on cars/withcars etc etc you get the idea.
right here is mine
!! when dismantling cars for a project, label everything and keep everything, because as much as you think you will remeber where you put stuff and where it goes 6months down the line...you wont.!!!
end transmission

Always do "look overs" on the work you have carried out that day. Wouldnt want to be firing your engine with no oil or screaming off with loose wheel nuts! ;D

Wear disposable gloves.
If I'd have known about disposable gloves when I started working on cars I would have done so much more!

Buy the best quality tools you can afford. Cheap tools are often just not worth it.

When removing steering wheels, DON'T TAKE THE CENTRE NUT RIGHT OFF until the wheel is "loose" on the column. Loosen the nut, then bash the wheel from behind to free it. Don't take the nut off, then pull the wheel towards you, because when it comes off you will be pulling it towards your face at 100mph, breaking your nose, and your glasses, and bleeding all over your t-shirt and interior. People will mock you for AT LEAST ten years. So far. ;D ;D ;D

When taking on a rebuild or a big job, don't just spend weeks doing the same thing or you will lose interest, swop jobs if you start to get fed up. Welding for weeks, then go sort the engine. Later on the welding wont be as much as a problem when you've had a break.

the time and money spent on the right tool will be worth it, instead of using the wrong tool and breaking both the tool and the part you're trying to tighten/loosen/adjust.
i managed to break a dizzy and a whole set of mini screwdrivers trying to remove a locking pin, instead of buying a £1 punch thing.

Before you strip a car down, invest in a number of large & small plastic tubs, freezer bags, sticky labels and a marker pen. Putting all the bits that need to be together in a bag or box & clearly labelling what it is saves no end of hassle later.

don't put lumps of lead in your petrol tank... It is not a way to make unleaded petrol leaded!!! it just bungs up the fuel pipe.... dumb pervious owner. don't try turning your engine over with no oil filter on to 'flush the last of the oil out' (my brother did this - certainly was messy!)
