Personally, I'd be inclined to go with the black bonnet on this one rather than the rising sun. If I did do the rising sun, I'd be tempted to mask off the current bonnet and just spray the white bits on top, make it look like it was done ages ago and has faded a bit. Yes still got my doubts on the rising sun  I think it may be a step too far  |

the front struts on these are pretty long. and the front arches are quite high so you'll be hard pressed to get it low enough without serious work. mine was runing cut springs on the front and had to rig up some spring retainers. was nearly hitting the bump stops and still wasn't quite low enough  |

Just plain ally by the looks of them,probably sprayed silver and originally had Datsun centre caps. They are MASSIVE though!

Spring is here and its time to start using the old tin box! Had a few staring issues but seemed to be a loose connection on the starter soleniod. Changed the fat,gapped the plugs and points and shes good to go! ;D ;D ;D   Still not got the bonnet sorted so there is a bit of unintentional "Rat" going on at the mo' TBH tho' I quite like it! ;D Got the rack back out of storage to ready for the summer, need to try and find my lager crate for the roof though!   |

I keep looking at your rear lights and thinking they should be freshened up with some satin black paint and a bit of aluminium tape. That Dunlop sticker is awesome, where'd you grab that from?
I don't like the bonnet, but funnily enough the age of the little Datsun means you can get away with it.

I don't like the bonnet, but funnily enough the age of the little Datsun means you can get away with it. The sticker was from "I say ding dong" on the bay of E, I do have another set of lights that I am thinking of cleaning up and fitting. The bonnet is going to be black its just a matter of time and inclination to do it,I will probably spray it myself now instead of have the vinyl which means in six months it will be "RatLook" again! ;D  |

Hmmm Its seems I have either bought a dodge battery or the alternator is on the blink because the battery is dead. I thought at first it was the rubbish cd player dragging down the battery but I have disconnected that and I am still getting starting problems.Also I have checked all the earths and terminals I can think of. This morning I jumped it off the wifes Polo and took it for a ten minute drive,disconnected the battery and left it for an hour when I got back,when I reconnected it the car would barely turn over. I would not have thought it was the battery as I only fitted it in January but you never know! STUMPED! Anyway here is a side profile for Mr Volksangyl  |

get yourself a votmeter or borrow one. and measure the voltage at the battery with the ignition off. then start the car and measure the voltage at the battery with the engine running.
best start with a fully charged battery if you can get it on a charger?
you should get 11.5-12.5 volts engine off
and around 12.5-13.5 engine running.
check that out first.
these have a voltage regulator in the engine bay and that could be at fault.

Right charged the battery,gapped the plugs (again) and managed to get it running, (eventually),pulling good volts at the alternator so I went for a ten minute blast.
Came back turned the ignition off and back on again and the starter motor whirred and then started to make a really slow lazy noise, the only conclusion I can come to is the starter is knackered so its the motor factors for me tomoz!
TBH its probably the original starter so fingers crossed!

Managed to get a recon starter motor from Greens in Leicester for £66 inc vat which I didnt think was too bad compared to some of the ridiculous prices I was quoted (£86 plus vat one place!)    One 37 year old starter motor!  The Datsun seemed suprised!  And the new one. I lightly oiled the pinion and it went on a treat,First flick of the key and the old gal fired up! Well Chuffed!! ;D |
