Good idea Volks,I mean Vulgalour I will break the Brasso out, I think I will give the silver edging on the lights a go as I trial fitted them in black and they just don't look right. Failing that I will just do them in the original colour.

Ok after nine months finally we are back on the road! Pics of the final stages-    Sat so long the chuffin' clutch seized! tbh it was about ready anyway and probably the original, so a new one was fitted which cost £11 inc postage of the bay of E.  |

And the first trip out! I was working on bank holiday Monday so it was the ideal time for a run to work and a bit of a shakedown.  Chrome knackered on the headlight rims so I have given them a lick of paint.  Hmmm not sure.   Wheels next! I have two 165x12s which I had fitted to the alloys only to find they BOTH had nails in them! Anyway good for a practice fit. TBH they just show off the MASSIVE struts on the front.   So on went the old steels and the original trims which I quite like and make the old lass look abit more standard.   Couldn't resist this, but its the only sticker that's going on.  So that's that! I intend getting some miles on the clock now.   Going to keep the tail lights black for now and work on my spare set with the Brasso and silver paint. Just hoping for some decent weather now! ;D |

That looks superb for the fresh paint and the work you've put in. You should be able to get those headlight trims rechromed, if memory serves they're metal rather than plastic unlike the later F11 with it's strange spectacle grille. In the meantime, I'd get a lick of satin black on those trims instead so they blend into the grille and bonnet a bit better. Speaking of black extras, are you reinstating the black wing and door top vinyl?
Top work though, it's looking great now, even more so than it did before.

Thanks mate, I think I will have the headlight trims rechromed as I am not entirely happy with the strange Dame Edna Everage look  ,satin black is a good idea for the trims and I will probably go down that route. As for the side stripes I am undecided, at the moment with the paint being soft they can't go back on anyway but I may leave it as it is for now and then next year have the black removed totally and go back to all yellow. Ta for the input. ;D |

Whilst the car was out of action I took the opportunity to get the old roof rack stripped and rebuilt. Had it powdercoated (thanks to Burton Stove Enamelling) It was going to be black but as the roof rack is older than the car its only fitting that it goes back in the original colour.   The wife loved my photographing it in the living room!(NOT).  Also given this little beauty by the wifes Grandmother, how Retro?  Put some rubber pads on the brackets and stuck it on the car!  Just need it to stop raining now!  |

Thanks mate I have taken them back off the car and I am going to spray them with some Chrome spray, the Frost stuff looks good so I may give that a go.  |

Sad that you have to put the little yellow monster into hibernation, but entirely understandable. I bet there's plenty of little jobs can be done with the car off the road. Engine bay is looking pretty tidy too.

Engine bay is looking pretty tidy too. I have considered running her all year round and I am sure it would be more than capable but having only put 600 miles on the clock since May it's the logical thing to do, especially now the body work looks so good. (And I am saving £70 on road tax  ). |

This Datsun is just glorious, it looks so right and I think its fair to say it's pretty much perfection...!!!
All I'd suggest is that you get some nice 70's style plastic on aluminium plates for it as when I see one of these I always see a weather worn set of those plates...!!!
