and no .. you aren't getting an off topic section. Your benevolant dictator, HTW Off topic section = www.virtualredlion.co.uk. Join, invade, take over and post what the hell you like. Tech section is a good idea. Cut springs and banded steel sticky FTW!

Is it not possible to create a searchable tag for the forum so when you are posting something that is "tech" you can flag the post as such and return only the tech posts in a search?
It saves breaking up the forum any more as it'll look terrible with too many sections.

On the balance of things I'm voting NO. Music radio for grown ups? Who'd have thought that was worth keeping

The thing is, where would threads like the Rebaixados one go? The subject is quite technical in that it reveals how the Brazilians achieve their scraping stance, but it has some awesome photos of said cars too.

Here's an idea.. how about a sticky where we can share our favorite bookmarked threads? That's how I (try) to keep track of where the useful stuff is, and having links gives old tech stuff a chance to rise to the top again.

My 2p for what it´s worth.
I think the problem of decent tech threads getting lost is better solved by getting the Wiki up and running properly (maybe with a tech section in there?) or reorganising the useful threads section rather than putting them in another seperate section.
We´ve got enough problems trying to keep everyone "on topic" as it is, i don´t think we should dilute the "general section" any more.
Although i like SOC´s idea with a sticky of favourite bookmarks, unfortunately they´d get ignored like the most of the other stickies too............

You can lead a horse to water... At the end of the day, there are plenty of forums that have a more structured style and people can navigate it fine. If people using this forum can't be arsed to click on a section, that speaks volumes about them. In My Honest Opinion, it's their problem if they can't make the effort. It's not like you're asking them to navigate NASA's website... www.nasa.gov/Now that's a labyrinth... ;D

And while the subject is presented, could there be an Ephemera or Hobby-related section too?
Stuff like art prints, toys, models, Hotwheels, 3D renditions, gaming, anime cartoons, decals...... in other words, if it's not stuck on a retro car, it gets put in this section.
If the toy, cartoon, or decal is stuck-on a car, then that's General Board valid. Otherwise, it's independently hobby fodder, nowt to do with cars themselves.
A Hotwheel collection itself is very cool. But it has as much to do with old cars as Monopoly does to real estate investing! Do you think a site about retro homes has Monopoly games on its General Board? No, it would not.
Discipline of thought - it's the new black.

I'm with oldbus, Tech section separated from the forum is good. BUT doing it in the Wiki is MUCH BETTER. That way, we can link to the wiki article in the discussion of said topic on the forum and throw pics into the thread. Links between the two tie it up nicely.
So yeah, shunt tech topics into the wiki

So yeah, shunt tech topics into the wiki but a wiki isn't for -asking- questions, and its not as easy to navigate as just having a tech forum. I'm all for adding complete threads to the wiki, so that it -can- be searched, but intially a tech forum would be best IN MY OPINION obviously

Yes A general how to/handy tips section would be good to, think there may be one of those though.... I'm not sure.

I think it'll be better separated as some days the front page is all tech questions rather than picture threads, personally i like the techy stuff but its not ideal for inspiration or motivation.

Isn't a Wiki for *definitive* information?
How does putting tech content into a Wiki promote tech discussion? Hell, half of it would be wrong. Like the V8 T5 thread currently on the Board.... and that's not a dis on anybody, just that a tech discussion is a PROCESS, not an ENCYCLOPEDIA.
I'm always a bit wary of tech Wikis anyway. Somebody runs with your erudite information, screws the pooch, and then wants recourse against you for leading them astray. I'd check my liability insurance rider on my home and bank account first before I tell some new fangler how to spit flames or rig an LPG kit. Just in case he's a nimrod.... I don't care to be Mr. Answer Man and take the legal hit for "incompleteness" or "failure to warn" or "imprudent assumption" or whatever stupid court theory, just for trying to help somebody out!

The way I browse on here is thus:
General *right click, open in new tab* Readers Rides *right click, open in new tab* Readers other Mods *right click, open in new tab* Cars for Sale *right click, open in new tab* Parts for Sale *right click, open in new tab*
I then browse each tab until I've seen/posted what I want to, and move on.
So another sub forum to open up would make no odds to me really, other than fatigueing my right middle finger...

What this forum needs is a "posts since last visit" button, thats the one i hit on most of the other forums i use, so it don't matter what section anything is in, if its new i get to see it.

No, I like everything mixed together. Otherwise it's one more place to look. I think the worst thing you can do with a forum is have too many sections.
