Just bought my self a new lid for doing trackdays. Now, I'm not overly 'style conscious' or anything but at the price I paid I think I've got myself an ultra cool lid that has the bonus of being safety approved. I always used to use a moto cross lid but myself and Tigran managed to lose the bolts that hold the top peak and chin guard so that when I wear it now, I resemble the 'human connon ball'. Not cool! So the idea of this thread? Let's see some cool lids. Home built custom jobs, airbrushed, polished, ex military etc etc. I'll start with a couple I'd like to own if I had a little more cash. Simpson 'bandit' And my favourite design for it's simplicity and the fact that it's a familly thing which is also cool. Graham Hill and Damon Hill

Simpson Bandit was the biggest letdown I ever had in my biking days!
I should imagine they're fine inside a car, but the fit of the visor was truly shocking - to the point where you could see daylight around it; windnoise doesn't even begin to describe the experience! Also, the visor was the thickest, darkest plastic imagineable - reat for blinding sunshine, but that was about it.
When I asked the guy why he was selling it I got a wry 'you'll see' comment. Sure enough, I sold it a week later!
Joe
edit: biggest let down until someone took a side panel out of my garage and pinched my R1 - and this was back in 1998 when they were still a bit special!

Good god, grind that portrait of Che The Butcher off your helmet. Might as well be Idi Amin or Saddam, if you're into torturing thugs on your skull. Read up a lil' on Che, if you care to learn the facts, he ain't the cute lil' Motorcycle Diaries medical intern out for a romantic fling. LOL Otherwise, love the helmet. Here's my favorite lately, from my Night At The Ace(tm):

You are of course totally aware of the whole story of who Che Guevara is and why he's iconic and aren't just one of those fashion victims who uses his image in ignorance..? Of course you're aware. ;D

I bought one of these - total steal as well it was! The fella couldn't get the visor off so I got it, boxed and in mint condition for £100. I then sent it off to Bell and got it repaired for free I was thinking of having it sprayed a flat black and orange design, a la Mr Dunlop. But only because I can't afford one of these...

Porsche 924 - gone Citroen Saxo VTR - not very retro but I loved it - now gone... MK4 Golf GTi 1.8T - gone but hardly remembered... Mini Cooper S R53 - gone BMW 125d Coupe - gone (mostly sideways)
Ford Focus RS Mk1 - hello low MPGs and "wanna race me" at every set of lights... 1973 BMW 2002 - Twin 40's, 284 Cam, Revolutions, E21 Recaros + more Porsche Cayman 987 3.4S - here and due to cost me more money than I have

^^Careful on painting helmets. Check with your sanctioning body, if you intend to race with it. Some thinners used in paint are "said" to penetrate the plastic substrate and weaken the integrity. This is why wrapping has gained popularity in some quarters. Hate to see you get bounced off a weekend of racing because your new lid got sprayed matt black and the screw-tineers mess up your whole day. Worth checking.

Good advice there Mr Blitz - I was literally just having a read up on that. Apparently Bell themselves will spray the helmet up which will allow it to retain it's rating. I might just get a sticker for the visor and have done with it

if i remember correctly even stickers are a bit iffy due to the adhesives? Maybe i misread it though..... I picked up one of these from Demon Tweeks clearance a few years back for £35 not used in anger yet, due to be on track at Combe on Arpil 24th so then hopefully will be its maiden outing!

I have one of these, with a cool dent in it. But would love one of these: As far as legal helmets go, i'd like a black "bandit"-type with a black visor.

It wasn't his image that attracted me to it, it was more how it reminded me of this car: ;D
