Is the box fitted to the 2.3 the same as fitted to the 2.0? got a noisy box in my 2.3 estate and happen to have a good box in a 2.0 parked next to it basically, will it fit? Thanks Matt

I don't actually know what the differences are.. but I'd be interested in coming along to lend a hand/look and learn because my 'box is really rather awkward in 1st and 2nd. It's a job I'd like to look at doing in the nearish future.. EDIT: does that mean you're breaking the saloon?...

Cheers for the offer ill hold you to that! won't be until the weather has warmed up tho! I've done a little more searching and it seems they 'should' have the same box. With regards to the saloon it depends what bits I need/want to swap to the estate. Realistically it's not worth alot so probably will end up breaking it! What parts would you be intersted in?

yep they if they are 5 speed they are the m47 and if they are 4 speed overdrive then they are m46. if its an auto to manual then the flywheel is different. easy to change once you got the hang of them, can do a clutch on them in three hours on my back thanks to the engine conversion

Thanks. They are both 5spd manuals so should be ok by the sounds of things is it easier/quicker to remove the engine and box or leave the engine in situ? (never changed a box on a rwd car)

both m47 the ones with a lift up reverse the same then. easy to do in situ, FWD gearbox is a nightmare if compared, usual jack-up and important stuff undo the prop on the gearbox side, move it out of the way, four bolts that hold the gear stick to the box one 10mm bolt to disconnect the gear stick from the box starter motor off, disconnect the little wires going to the box if any long reach extension bars on the ratchet to go over the bell housing to undo the gearbox to engine bolts (makes it easier opening from underneath)
not much to open, however a helping hand is very useful.

Cool, just drop me a PM when you intend on doing it.. Only thing I'm after at the moment is some saloon rear lights and maybe a windscreen if I'm feeling daft/brave enough. But there is always a need for bits for a 22 year old barge..
