A bit later than the others to post my pics up (as usual), here are some shots of the weekend down at the unit....the first time in over 6 months I have spent any real time down there other than Playdays. It was a great weekend!
Ben118-118 is the first person to use the ramp properly (the Hustler was only put up there 'because we could' and wanted to try out the new toy!) It had been a long time coming.....lots of people helping to make it happen over a four month period and I am glad that one of the people who helped as much as anyone else was able to make good use of it on its maiden job.
The Volvo was a tight squeeze with the workbench (mods currently being carried out to the bench
) but the lift got the Scandinavian barge in the air without any fuss.
While Steve (Speedman) raises the LoVo, Ben checks some awesome tracking issues on his car:
Steve and Ben decide that putting one of these in might help with the current 'Marty Feldman' effect of the wheels
Sean (Mid72) pulls his lovely CX into the unit to work on the carbs and get some tinkering done on the handbrake.
We take a break to eat burgers and admire the LoVo in the air. Steve's modern daily in the background.....as he's already mentioned, he'd come 100 miles from Reading to change a headlamp bulb. Good man. Concerned that his car might be too modern I remind him that Area 52 is about the people more than the cars. Cars are still important, but there is no issue with age in this place (that applies to people AND cars.... ;D )
I get busy with a grinder and welder to get the workbench modifications underway. A bit later, Steve heads off followed by Sean. I'd been so busy that I forgot to get any pics!
Skip forward a few hours more and Ben & I return from the Sainsbury's food run. We decided that a solid diet of nothing but burgers 6 playdays in a row....followed by a few more for lunch....it was time to have something different.
Alan's amazing wood burner had been keeping the cold at bay all day and we decided to put it to good use warming some spuds up for dinner:
About 90mins later we crank up the BBQ and get some rib-eye action going, ready for when the spuds come out of the wood burner. YUUUUUMMMMMMM!!!!!!
Dinner is served. The A52 microwave was fired up to heat through some peppercorn sauce, plus a few dollops of butter and we've got something pretty tasty going on
BEST AREA 52 MEAL EVAR!!!
....as evident by the empty plate
Jed agrees and offers to act as dishwasher seeing as we had worked so hard today. His stretchy tonque has a cleaning capability far beyond anything Fairy or Finish can come up with
Another frenzy of activity late into the night playing with cars and box section....and I forget to pick up my camera AGAIN!! We retire to snug around 1am and quickly realise we're both shattered. I get Jed as hot water bottle. Excellent. See you in the morning.
8am I am up and stoking up the wood burner ready for breakfast. Usual A52 brekkie consists of copious rashers of bacon and lots of bread, ketchup and cheap plastic cheese. Not this morning.
Oh no, this morning we've gone all continental with some Pain au chocolat ;D Heated up on the hotplate with tea kept warm on the upper plate....this is the future!
Who could argue with a bit of French patisserie in the morning? Not me, not Ben, not Jed...that's for sure!
Breakfast over and its back to work. I decide to give the workbench mods a break and help Ben out for a bit.
Area 52 & Grinders go hand in hand. It's what we do (ask RTLKyuubi
)
How many nuns are 2 coils worth?
How many schoolkids are 2 coils worth?
Jed assesses the springs after thay are chopped and come back with his verdict. APPROVED.
If it's fine by Jed, then it's fine. ;D
Tune in tomorrow for more fun & fine food from Area 52
