other ideas brewing now which involve metal bands, some blocks of MDF, a big wood lathe and a rather large vacuum former! In our sandyacht club workshop we have an old milking machine vacuum pump that has been used in the past for vac forming carbon masts and bodyshells for our sandyachts . . . . . we originally got it for NoWT. . . . Thanks jo0lz, I had a chat with Phil (Swollen) the other day and plans are afoot for the vac forming side of things. If all goes to plan we should end up with something pretty funky, appropriate to the buggy and not too hard to make. Now find yourself a unit ooop narth and get busy with some project vehicles. ;D

PLAYDAY VI DETAILSAs usual, this is the rather 'late in the day' details for the next Playday. I've been uber busy and this has been the first real chance to sit down and write up all the details and requests.....SORRY!! Saturday 30th will be Playday VI (I can't believe it's been half a year already!!) Continuing from the previous weekend on 9th/10th Jan, this one is to get the unit as up-together and functional as possible. The four biggest jobs to tackle are to get the 2 post lift working which Adrian has kindly agreed to come and help with - there will be some cleaning & regreasing of the mechanism as well as wiring up the micro switches etc.... The workbenches....fitting new tops to the workbenches to make them more usable. Fitting vices etc... Plumbing in the waste for the sink in the snug. The units and sink are in, the water supply is connected and the taps are working....all we need to do now is run the waste pipe back into the toilet area. All the plumbing is there, it just needs cutting, routing and connecting. Fitting the wood burning stove in which Grunty has very kindly made. CortinaRyan has kindly given a length of chimney flue to get all the smoke out of the unit. Many thanks guys. There are lots of other little jobs like fixing a window, painting a window frame (if weather is dry) buliding another bookshelf etc... TOOLS NEEDEDWe have most tools needed to carry out the jobs, but if anyone has a good circular saw and a good jisaw then these might come in very useful. One essential tool we will need is the use of a decent SDS drill and some good sized bits (possibly chisel tips) to attempt to cut a 5" hole through the double skin concrete block walls for the chimney flue. Extra angle grinders & sanders are always handy too ;D MATERIALS NEEDEDIf anyone has any of the following bits spare to donate, they would really useful and very much appreciated: > 2x2" & 2x4" timbers for the construction of the bookshelves > Grease (thick grease & copper grease) for the 2 post lift > White spirit & LOTS of rags for the cleaning of the 2 post lift > Some door handles so that we can close & open the snug doors properly > Box section metal: if you have any bits of box section (ideally useful lengths) then these would come in really handy for making some extra shelving on the existing bookshelves and some ladder rungs to access the storage area over the lock-up store > Plexiglass/perspex sheet (3ft max x 2ft max) to make a window which we can cut a ventilation slot into for the spary booth >> MOST IMPORTANTLY: any wood (nod chipboard or MDF) that we could use in the woodburner. Old logs/branches or offcuts of swan timber etc....heating the unit will be such a bonus for everyone. As per usual playdays, please bring some money to throw into the food kitty for all the lovely BBQ food and maybe a few pounds to throw into the 'donations' pot which pays for the BBQ gas, welding gas, electricity and tea/coffee. As the playdays have grown, these expenses (on top of the rent of the unit) have really started to hit my own pocket so I do ask that people consider putting a little bit in to help take the extra burden off me. I hate asking...but it really is for the benefit of everybody. ;D BEDDING...LOTS OF if you are staying over. Maybe even a hot water bottle - it does get damn cold down there! Beer....if staying over, bringing some beer or chipping in for some is all part of the evening ritual. If anyone hasn't been to Area 52 before and needs directions, please PM me and I'll get back to you with details. Thank you all again and I will see you all on Saturday morning. Sorry to all those that cannot make it....

The Hustler 6 (six wheeler) is the one that looks like JonnyCab and GTV Saviour reckons I should make mine look like a replica from the film. I have other plans, however ;D The orignal Hustler 6 looks something like this (when it has all the wheels on....unlike mine!) I love the idea of it, but think the proportions are completely wrong. What I have in mind is a healthy slam, bigger wheels (14" instead of 10") and then bring the roofline down a touch with the aid of an angle grinder and a glass cutter. Rake the screen back and voila.....the Hustler 6 'MM Edition' None of this will happen for a while because I have the Rascal to finish...then the Fugitive. But I have the car, so that's a start ;D The little Sport will be the Area 52 group build car, so this can be done during play weekends so it can then do a tour of some of the shows (probably next year) this is a slippery slope who on earth put these silly ideas into your head lol. sorry for using up possibly a year of your life in one thread lol ;D

Just had a call from Bruce, he has some important family things to deal with over the weekend, he will be around for Playday, but will be popping in and out, he may be a bit quieter than usual, but still wants the event to go ahead.

Just had a call from Bruce, he has some important family things to deal with over the weekend, he will be around for Playday, but will be popping in and out, he may be a bit quieter than usual, but still wants the event to go ahead. Also spoken to Bruce today and to reiterate what Hotwire has said, the weekend will go on as usual, though Bruce will have to nip out a couple times during the day to visit the hospital. He's sounded positive on the phone, reeling off the plan of jobs and stuff to buy using my B&Q discount Sounds like him and Morgs have had a productive time down at the unit today as well. The only thing that will be effected is the supply of mugs because time is quite rightly being prioritised with family first. So as long as those who ordered a mug don't mind waiting a bit longer for their beverage receptacle, then it's all systems go. Bruce said he'd be along later but asked me to put a quick post up as well. See you all at the weekend

sorry to hear about the troubles bruce as for leaving area 52 in the hands of a bunch of hooligans, you fool !! ;D ;D ;D Right lads I have all the pink paint and the chintz curtains and throws for the settees ;D ;D Seriously though.. I can't get there till the late afternoon due to the Pug being collected by the Count and Maestro calling back in for a front pipe and a complete brake fluid change and anything else the chap has found I will bring the woodburner, it will need burning outside first though!! It sounds as though needed kit will be already there but if anything is needed give me a yell and I will try to bring it. Stealthstyles, can i put my name down for a lump of meat? ;D

Hi guys, Sorry for not being on sooner.... Playday is all systems go. There is no way this weekend is being cancelled ;D Thomas, it's all good for tomorrow. You and Ryan (RTLKyuubi) will be staying at mine. I'll have to go back to the hospital at some point in the evening, but Jed can keep you both company. I'll only be gone an hour or so. Thanks to HTW & Ben for putting the messages up for me and to all of you for the words/texts of support I won't have any mugs done I'm afraid....that kinda fell by the wayside, but I'll be back on the case as soon as the weekend is over - although I never want Playday weekends to be over. I'll be having to leave the unit in the afternoon and the evening on Saturday (v.strict visiting hours) but make sure you save me some beers 'cause I'll be hitting them BIG TIME when I get back LOL. While I'm gone I'll be expecting the pink paint and chintz curtains to be finished. I managed to get a couple of jobs finished/underway today. Morgs & I then started to tackle the new A52 'temporary' space. It was messy, it was dusty but it was what I needed to keep my mind occupied. Ryan & Jimmi also came over around 4.30pm to help out and we got a lot done. MASSIVE thanks to Morgs, Ryan & Jimmi for their help today...couldn't have managed it all on my own and the weekend will be a LOT better now we have the new space. I might not be on here much between now & Saturday, but I hope I've got most bases covered? Cheers for now, Bruce.

That's it Ryan - I want the A52 stickers removed immediately.....I don't want the good name of Area 52 soiled by your nefarious activities ;D ;D ;D I'm guessing you got lost in the city centre? Lol....only four more hours to kill before you can come over. Nice RR spot Phil
