The next morning (Sunday) work starts in earnest on the Fiesta. James gets stuck straight in, determined that it'll be running properly before the day is out. The Lotus watches on.... Tiggs had been working away on the rear arches of his E46 Touring in order to try and get these wheels to fit: 8.5x17 on the front and 10x17 on the back. It looked a LOT meaner in the flesh. A LOT!! Got dish? There's a lot more of it at the rear I'm not a massive E46 fan, but even when covered in dirt, this thing looked HAWT! Front is coming down more once the arches have had their final fettling. Front wheel in this shot is the original he'd been running (new wheels only fitted for mocking up purposes until the final arch fettling was all done & dusted) James ditches the electronic dizzy and pulls out the one from the 'Area 52 Fiesta' to use as a donor 'get you home' solution. I bit of soldering to convert it to run on the Hardcore Fiesta loom: Dave prepares some epic microwave Nachos. How did I miss this meal?? The crowds gather around as the smell of Doritos, salsa, cheese, jalapenos and other delights fill the air Remnants of the weekends drinking. Not bad! The true sign of an alcoholic is denial. We do NOT have a drinking problem at the unit.

This image is brilliant (what lens is it?) Hi Mark, Many thanks for the comment...the lens was a 24-105 (shot taken at 105mm @ f/4). I was a bit lazy this weekend and all the shots were taken with this lens. It's probably the most versatile lens I've ever used which doesn't help matters. I really ought to try out my 50mm or UWA more often! Last shots from the weekend: James continues to work on the Fiesta Special delivery of the biggest non-4x4 wheels EVAR!! Lotus becomes a handy workbench Electronic dizzy now destined for the bin It's old, it's basic, but it's a proper workhorse and just keeps plodding away. It was my Grandads, then my Dads, so I am very proud to have it in service down at the unit. Sometimes you just can't beat a bit of 'old-tech' The 'donor' dizzy turns out to be more than a little worn out. Fooked I think the term was? Luckily another one was found in the boxes of stuff around the unit. PHEW! All the gear! Timing lights, torches, test meters, socket sets, screwdrivers, spare coils....all utilised to get the Fiesta running. it worked too, James got it running pretty well....and certainly well enough to get Andy & Kara back to Brighton. He's a bit of a c..t whizzkid is James. Area 52 can be scene if we want to: ...actually, maybe we can't... ...but that's a very, very good thing and why I love the place so much. We are what we are. That's enough. So, until the next time. ;D

Also I'm on earlies that week so will be setting of around 3pm-ish friday (this can be changed though to suit ya) though I need to pop into manchester to pick kev up 2 sets of wheels and a couple of tyres iirc, though there maybe more. I'll find out what's happening and let you know, i'm thinking if I can get down early enough on Friday Bruce might offer to take some epic photos of the Proton for me.

The 'donor' dizzy turns out to be more than a little worn out. Fooked I think the term was? Luckily another one was found in the boxes of stuff around the unit. PHEW! Fooked is the polite way of describing that Motorcraft dizzy. The ignition timing was randomly altering between about 30 degrees before TDC and about 10 after - at idle - because of the play in the shaft for the points cam. That, combined with the broken condensor, might go some way to explaining why that other Fiesta woudn't drive. The Bosch dizzy from the shelf had next to no play, and timed in perfectly - it transformed the running of the car. And yes, I always work like this. I could get most things done twice as quickly if I wasn't always looking for the tool I had in my hand 20 seconds previously.

Interjection: I would be very very interested in these wheels if they are available at a sensible price, assuming 5x4.5" Ford/Mopar. PM me if so. I would be happy with a pair, as I have a pair here...

Hi Alistair, they were dropped off at the unit in December as part of the Pony Express journey to the infamous car/wheel collector Mr Bickle. I am sure if you were to PM him he'd be able to tell you what their planned role is and if they are indeed for sale or not. Sorry I can't be of any more help. I was simply the 'middle man' storage facility in their journey across country.

Haha was only messing. I don't tend to go much above 110mph in it, mostly because the roads I go ragging on don't have enough space to get to that sort of speed.
We'll sort out a setting off times etc nearer the time.
