Rich cracks on with welding a new rear exhaust & silencer for the Passat. Rich & exhausts is like happy pig in slushy poop. Meanwhile....some hot embers, some skewers and some marshmallows = proper winter treats Perfecting the art of melting the centres & browning the outside without it falling off "hot hot hot hot hot hot hot...hmmmm....tasty" Rich takes a break from welding to melt some sugar instead. Maybe a bit overdressed? Hot marshmallows and a roasting hot woodburner is what kept us going I don't know about you, but this is making me hungry all over again. Good shout Dan, I think everyone agreed it was a great way to warm up and eat something sweet. Nigel Bickle very kindly sent me over this gift....he bought it in Belguim for me. Thanks Nigel, I'll be using it to save my pennies in towards some parts for the Lotus. If you've seen the video on the previous page then this will need no introductions. If you haven't watched it yet, go and do so right now.... Ben reluctantly has a go.... Dave fails to make it past the door. John landed in the muddy puddle outside and Ben just before it. I couldn't tell you where I ended up, I was too dizzy! Tigran continues the weekends theme of healthy eating with a Pot Noodle. We all described to him how Rich's idea of a scotch egg peeled into one of these was a winning combo. He didn't look too impressed, but seriously, it's awesome! Rich606 makes further use of the inner tube. What makes you think it was cold in the unit? Work carries on with the Passat. In order to get the headlight aim fixed the adjuster needs to be repaired....time for the unit to come out for some TLC The new windy gun has proved invaluable. It's had so much use since we got it that I can't imagine life at the unit without it now.....so, so much better than the old asthmatic one. A little hint left on the headlight to convince the MOT man to do the right thing. Random shot....some MX5 bonnets. Plans afoot for a few of these. More to come later.

^Innertube frolics are still making me laugh even now^ As the night wore on, Dave brought his Chevette in to have a look around the underside. The joys of having a ramp. We got to play our fave game ever....lets see what wheels we've got kicking around that will fit. I've been selling off a lot of my wheels, but Dan had his 'mini-VIP' rims form the Cuore. We tried 'Mini-Donk' look first: Not a good look...so we set the ramp to go lower...and lower: That's better. Although the offset was just a teeny bit out!! I think in 'scene' terms, this is known as mega-tuck So we move onto some 7x15 4 spokes I have. Genuinely, in the flesh these look SO HAWT!! Imagine in the late 70's if DTV did RS 4 spokes 90's Japanese rim meets 70's British 2dr saloon. A match made in heaven After that, Dave & Rich cracked on with lopping out the old exhaust ...and chopping up bits of newer pipe to make something a bit more fruity The crowd gathers to see the exhaust taking shape Rich cranks up the welder again (don't know why, but I love this shot) Welding it onto the car ready for some nice sounds Random shot to end this set....it's going to break my heart to sell this thing in a few months. More to come....

Bruce is an absolute legend.
After hearing about my MOT fail list and knowing that some of it could only be done on the ramp and with the use of a hydraulic press, I got an offer to be put on the ramp to sort a few bits out. I'm incredibly grateful to Bruce and everyone that was at A52 this weekend for their help with stuff I either wouldn't have been able to do or would have taken ages on my own on the driveway.
Intrigued to see photos of how Sunday unfolded since I inadvertantly contributed to that....

I'm definitley overdue a visit, and for some insane reason Halfords have decided to allow me to work every other weekend (rather than 1 a month off) so should be down soon.

I shan't make the Feb playday, the car is only just going to be getting started on the engine fixing because of money shenanigans (thank you Council ¬.¬) but I'm hoping to make the playday after that by which time the new shiny things will be attached which Bruce will need to see (it's a sekrit!) and the car will no doubt need a good run to bed in the new parts and blow the cobwebs out of the old parts.... and to make up for my woeful period of non-driving time!

Offset looks fine to me. Just apply the remaining requirements for 'rebaixidos'.

Ben, It was my pleasure to be able to offer the ramp space/time to help you out. After all, if we can't look after each other then there is something very amiss with the whole Area 52 ethos. Especially when the car is going to suddenly be a lot more important for you very soon I think everyone was very happy to help you out? I guess I speak on everyones behalf when I say "that's what we do" ;D Angyl, glad you like the wheels, they look even better in the flesh. Sadly, they will be appearing in the for sale section very soon Sorry you can't make it down to the Feb weekender, but really hope you get to make it over to the March one (especially if you get to show off some new bits on the car ) Seth, I see where you're coming from and it was discussed, but I don't think Dave was really feeling it? Ryan, Kev, Matt, Dave....sounds like an awesome plan. Look forward to seeing you all...it's been too long. In the meantime, have a photo which I really liked. Almost has a cosmic look to it!

ha ha! Trust me to find the ONLY puddle in the yard. What a fool. Had a brilliant time again guys, massive thanks. Cakes went down a storm. Glad to see the fez got running again too! Always loved your pics Bruce, awesome stuff. I think this one is brilliant: The halo effect is sweet! Some of my pics from the weekend . . . Bruce and James form their "Team Bead Blasting" once more the Elite is pushed out, and we all have a good noes around Can't beat a bit of wood! I fit some lowering blocks to my car with the help of Mark (cheers mate!) . . . while a nice bit of arch grinding takes place (with eyes closed, of course) Later that night, toasted marshmallows, and fires are on the cards . . . . . . inbetween messing around with a car inner tube! Ben's Passat receives more MOT passing love Mmmm warmth The next evening sees Dave's newly acquired Chevette up on the ramp, for a good inspection and a "Rich special" exhaust. Everyone piles underneath for a good look. Andy's Fez is brought in for a cylinder firing problem, James works his magic. Meanwhile more grinding is done for the 'zorst on the 'vette And some more shots to round off . . . Hey Mark, what do you think of A52? "It's freakin coooool maaan!!" Polishing the 'vette Before After Fuel mileage calculations maybe? Again guys, thanks for another brilliant weekend. I'll see you all in Feb!

Brilliant pics Jon, they really capture the spirit of the weekend. I especially like the wide angle grinding shots. Some more of mine that I haven't got around to posting up yet: Darkness pushes on and the Lotus spends its first night outdoors since I bought it. Andy & Kara arrive back in the Fiesta, things are amiss with the timing, so James (Area 52 special electrical 'C') gets stuck straight in Rocker cover comes off as the valve clearances get looked at James, happy as a pig in s**t Still no nearer solving the issue, the night ends with the general diagnosis..."we'll look at this again in the morning" We all gather around the woodburner at about 3am for a chat and to sink the last of the beers. We're getting very good at drinking EVERYTHING!! For something the size of a Mk6 Fiesta, Mazda Demios make surprisingly comfortable beds. Two nights on the folded seats and I'd happily do it again if I had to. The seats don't look that flat when folded like this, but actually work quite well on the ergonomic front. We all head to bed...
