ok, i need some pressure to get the workshop finished, so here are some pics ... in 2006 we decided to buy a house, as my ex-girlfriend (and my now-wife ) didn't want to live in an old house anymore.... so we bought an old house instead ;D
First thing i saw from the house was not the kitchen, not the bath-room, no, it was the workshop ;D The complete ground floor is workshop actually, so the decision was clear, we had to have it.... we couldn't afford this house alone, so we split it up with my parents.... they have the bigger flat (though ours is 150 square meters) and we have the other flat and the workshop... this was one of my dreams of all times, having my own workshop ... the first thing we saw was actually the workshop, and the deal was done, no matter how the flat would look like....
that was in 2006, when we moved in ... brother-in-law borrowed us the truck, our Type 25 was doing the other duties very well...
that Saab belonged to the previous house owner, it was very rusty and picked up later...
as we didn't want to carry all the boxes and furniture upstairs, we borrowed this lift :
i am not going to bore you with all the kitchen and other stuff.... the workshop is much more interesting ...
can't believe how empty it was , when we moved in... if i'd try this today i'd get stuck after 5 meters....
in this room at the end of the workshop there are two cars now and lots of panels....
looking from this room to the workshop... you can see the lift here ....
this is how it looks like from the gate; on the left there were two workbenches, which i took out and parked two passats and a Type 3 instead...
you can see the stairs, there is a huge upper floor where a lot of parts are stored...actually i found some baywindow parts there and a NSU Lambretta (the previous house owner forgot it !) ...
the previous owner also left the "Bullerjan" , which is quite nice when it's cold in winter....
you can see, how big it is....
owning an old house doesn't mean you have to make compromises on modern telecommunication ;D
a view from the first floor....
there is another room around the corner.... oh yeah, that was very nice, the problem is , if you have space, then you collect all unneccesary stuff, so today it's rather a nightmare to walk through the workshop... in the best times 13 cars were in there, and one or two on the outside... that's too much, so i am downsizing a bit at the moment; i noticed that, when i had to repair cars on the outside, as i didn't have enough space inside.... let's not talk about the lift, as this is blocked with the silverrustbucket Passat for the last two years..... so i have a lift, but can't use it, and i have to work outside the shop with a jack ? No, that's enough, i'll have two weeks off in december and then i'll do some work down there... a lot of stuff will get thrown away, and i have to find a system, where i can find things again.... so this is how it looks at the moment :
the lift will be moved where the red Jetta is at the moment; so ican drive on the lift , at the moment it is a bit of a nightmare to get on it, as you have to reverse round the corner.... also all those non-runners used to park in front, and all the running cars in the back, that is not very good
The Clio and the baywindow will have to go in spring, as they are both not mine: there is another Mk.I Jetta on the outside, which will also go in spring, i might sell the type 3 and maybe the jetta.... in the next couple of weeks you will see me driving to the tip and throw most of the unneccesary stuff away; i'll keep a small stock of the VAG parts, put all the panels upstairs, install a proper lighting and air pressure stuff.... when the lift has moved to the new place, i can store all the non-runners behind it and then i can use the lift again, as the silver passat will be on its wheels by then.... the biggest problem with me is, that i tend to leave the tools all over the workshop; so there will be a new system of storing the tools... i think, when there is only one place where i work on cars, it might be easier to put all the tools where they belong... it doesnt make sense to search one tool for 30 minutes and finishing the job then in 5 minutes.... the same goes with electrics and air hoses; i go mad searching the extension cable or the air hose: so from now on every tool has its own place....
i started moving the workbench from the place where the Mk.I Clio is to the place where it is now.... also i put up two shelves where all the necessary things (oil, sprays, grease etc.) are, another shelf was placed for all the nuts and bolts and the other small stuff...
Plans are:
- 50% of the stuff will be going to the tip
- fit better electric and air hoses
- move lift by 90°
- paint the walls
- put up some decoration (posters etc.)
- install a hoist
- install a corner with a couple of chairs...
- install a decent stereo
- use a system of storing tools that actually works...
- put all tools at one place/replace missing or broken tools
- paint the floor
i am really open to ideas and suggestions, i need somepressure motivation, to get the workshop proper... too much stuff = not good.....
