By way of example, last year, I'd been looking at a few Polo G40s, and thought i'd found the right one. Lowest insurance quote was 1250 quid tpft, lowest fully comp was 2500. Granted its a quick little car, granted I'm 21 years old and only have 1 years NCB, but FFS the car was only worth 1300 quid!!! Hehe when i first got my G40 i got insured through Elephant for a fairly reasonable £720 (aged 23, rough area, only one year NCB) - for a laugh though my mate put a quote through Saga for himself. Ages 20 with two years NCB in a fairly nice area, they wanted £15000. That's not a typo, that has the correct number of zero's. Fifteen thousand pounds.

I have nver paid more than £500 Fully comp. And my first car was (is) a 1500 Midget with mods. the GT is 285 fully comp and all the mods stated. I don't seem to live in a high risk area so its nice and cheap.
LOL lewis thats class 10 grand

Jeezus! Some of these figures are absolutely bonkers!! It costs me £500 pa for the BMW, standard mileage, agreed valuation, mods declared, Fully Comp inc breakdown & legal. That's with 2yrs NCB and an SP30. On the crusty truck of war tm it were £90 for the year. The most I evAr paid was £795 on my 1400cc astra, immediately after some travellers destroyed my NCB.

'Refer' is not good is it, well thats where i am, a nice quiet road with normal people, two minute drive away is Moss side heard of that place? Must have summat to do with this refer thing. must mean could be a G but depends which road BTW students in the house, try Endsleigh, they give upto 30% off for being a student, how crazy is that. I actually insured a 2.0 Volvo in my second yaer with em in a rough area (F) too!

Lollington! My postcode comes up as 'A'! Clearly the local inbred population (very high, very stupid) are too tanked up on Tennants Super to bother with car crime

On the Mk2 Escort, granted the log book claimed it was still a 1300cc, and i was 18 at the time it cost 1300quid fully comp, then down to 800quid tpft for the 2nd year. on getting a quote for 3rd year they wanted £850 tpft, where as i could insure a 2.3 Granada for £700 tpft!! strange but true. I paid a grand for the escort and 500 quid for the granny. I'm 21 Next year and so's the Granada so its classic insurance time!

NR35 - catagory A - nice...
Datsun, 1800cc, Classic policy with no no claims. Fully comp. Agreed value. Unlimited milage. Lowering suspension/TR6 wheels declared. £120.
Benz 5.6 v8 300hp coupe. Fully modifyable policy (i.e. I can do whatever I want to the car for no further charge),. Fully comp. Agreed value. 3000 miles (like I can afford to use it more than that!) £500.
Yes, being old (30) is indeed handy sometimes.
Do feel for some of these younger chaps though, especially those within our scene (i.e. the ones who actually care about their cars) - rememebr being outraged at having to pay £680 for a policy on my Morris Minor when I passed my test at 17. Oh, how times change...

Phew, above makes me glad too of my advanced years. My early days of insurance were just before the big joyriding thing, so I’d got a bit of NCB by the time big premiums hit. East Anglia probably helps with low risk too.
I now have three cars insured, two fully comp with 5000 miles each plus one TPFT unlimited, for under £400.
I think premiums are also high because of inefficiencies and bureaucracy of the industry. Example: My stepdad recently bumped the back of his W-plate Ford Ranger pickup. It put a vertical crease in the tailgate and edge of the bed, and cracked bottom of the Truckman top. Told he had to go to approved repairer, who quoted £3500!!
Because they claimed truck was only worth £4k (itself a scandal, you’d never replace his minter for that) they offered to write it off. He protested and was allowed to take it elsewhere for another quote, and have option of top repaired not replaced, which brought price down to about £1500.
So, if he hadn’t have argued the case that would have been an extra £2000 paid out, for nothing.
Remember you’re also paying for all those whiplash claims.

Remember you’re also paying for all those whiplash claims. Too right! ‘Oooh think I’ll get a claim in!!!’ the cry goes up after a minor parking tap. I remember some tw*t in my office boasting about that back in Skem, got about £3k, spent it on some double glazing or something. F**king idiots.

I've never had quotes like these, some are absolutely crazy!
My first years insurance at 17 was on an oval Beetle with agreed valuation of £5000 - £650 fully comp! I thought it was expensive at the time, but on reflection seems to have been a bit of a bargain!
Current insurance is £460 FC on the daily driver Passat (5 years no claims), and £196 on the Ghia, FC with agreed valuation and with no claims!

"Any modifications, sir?"
"Different exhaust, shocks, springs and a front bumper off another Chevette."
"Is it stock equipment from the factory on the other Chevette?"
"...Yes."
*pause*
"£600" (ish)
"What if I want to change the engine....?"
*pause*
"An extra £100."
"Does it matter what engine?"
"No...that's a flat rate."
