For another project Does anybody know were I can obtain the wing mirrors of the style on many an older Japanese car. i.e as seen mounted on the wings in the following examples (sorry only pictures I could find quickly Reason is want something a bit different to the usual 'Bullet' type wing mirrors for a 60's/70's car. And these 'J style' are not as easy to deduce as I first thought .

They are extremely hard to find, but can be sought. If you are looking at geniune New Old Stock, then expect to pay US$150 upwards for a pair. Yes, the datsun 1600/510/240z ones sell in excess of US$200 a pair. However, if you are after the style and not necessarily need a geniune set, then ebay is your friend as they do come up occaisonaly. Drop me a PM , if you are interested, I have a source who can get them

Pssst, I'm in NZ, the Majority of our vehicles come/came direct from Japan.
I can get a lot fo them, easier to get the eighties ones than the 70's ones but yeah.. they're around... both my N910 Bluebird and my now dented C110 Skyline have sets, I have a spare set of C31 Laurel ones and I know where several sets are sitting at a wreckers that I can probably get for around 40NZD which is about 15GBP before freight.

I'm amazed they were still fitting them there so late on....

They basically fit them right up until the cars started using collapsable/folding mirrors. It's a size/street width space thing.

Right people .....Thank you all for your help (and offers) rmad: I did wounder about bike units but the 'heads' I've found might look too small for what I want (althought it looks ace on that Datsun...In fact the whole Datsun looks Ace!) Your mirror set up is a good idea ...I honestly never thought about caravan extensions ...but again not sure if will suit ...but mind is woundering Retro Mat: Thanks for those pictures, it gives me more ideas/styles of mirror (in fact I think that Micra looks quite good with them on ) Kyteler: Thankyou for your offer, I really want NEW ones/unused old stock. Can't complain about price thats good ...but it's carrage costs that might bump it up. Will keep in mind though Also as onlyrwd said I too did not realise they were fitted so late and did wounder why they were fitted originally, I think they should have been fitted to UK spec J cars as standard. P.S. Sorry to hear your Skyline has had a knock datsfun: I have pm'd you, thanks

No worries, if you do decide on some from here I can investigate prices of freight for you before you commit to anything, that's not a problem at all. Some from wreckers are still quite tidy, infact, the set I fot for Snoozin' Euro to put on his KP Starlet, were very tidy and off an old Toyota Corona, this is what they look like...

Ah yep, they can be a bit of a mission, Mitsi Celeste's have similar ones, as do early Mazda's.. finding them however, is another story!

Yep cheers for that! Yes this is the other 'round style' and has holes on stem. Many thanks for all your assistance. LATEST DEVELOPMENT: Aparantly the first set you informed me about (for sale in America, already been in touch with the company and they were extremely helpful are still on the Toyota Japan Official parts inventory ...They are/were a genuine part/accessory sold through Toyota dealers in far east and still availble from Toyota So I have just been to my local Toyota dealership (who are helpful with older vehicles) and enquired. The parts guys are now going through the enquiry route (as item will be classed as non-European/import item) with Toyota...I'll see what happens? (They did say that if I could ever find some form of Part Number it would speed things along greatly). If everything works out it would be superb to still be available from any Toyota dealer (and be easier as would be dealing face to face / no postage hassle etc.)

Right, Update: These According to a very helpful member in New Zeland in the Toyota Enthusiast Club were sold through Toyota in the 70's and they have Toyota part numbers 1970 to 1972 mid grey bodies/storks 87910-14050 Fender Mirror, Sports Type, RH 87940-14050 Fender Mirror, Sports Type, LHAugust 72 to 1975 Silver bodies/ storks 87910-14070 Fender Mirror, Sports Type, RH 87940-14070 Fender Mirror, Sports Type, LHSo of I went to my local Toyota Dealer and... Shock, horror the later pair of numbers still came up on system! AT £80 THE PAIR! so cheaper than the Foriegn sources But ... Toyota computer system at dealer keeps saying 'Mirror,Door' not 'Mirror, Wing/fender' so I am woundering. Dealer did wounder if part number is 'doubled' for country of use and thus issues what that countries car had in first place, so to speak. So more investigation will be called for. Hope you don't mind me keeping 'story going' as I felt (if it gets sorted) part numbers might be helpful to someone else

Well I certainly don’t mind you keeping this little story going. £80 seems a fair price for some pukka JDM mirrors from a main dealer if it happens they are correct. Not sure that rounded style would suit all cars (rectangular ones would suit late 70’s/early 80’s shapes better?) but it’s start.
If Toyota dealers can get foreign stuff like this, what about finding part number for rectangular mirrors off, say, a JDM Corolla or similar?
For early 70’s stuff I quite like the chrome Desmo style wing mirrors, as fitted by the UK importers. The 180B estate has them, as had a number of my older Datsuns, just creates a slightly different twist on the JDM mirror look rather than slavishly following them. Can’t you still get them from Mr Grumpy’s?
