Anyone who reads the drivel that I post on here will know that I change my ideas about cars about as often as I change my underpants, i.e. about every month, on average... . So I thought I'd run my latest harebrained scheme passed you to see what you thought... ATM I run the Favorit as my daily driver and the O/H runs the Astra estate, but I'm thinking of a change. We could do with still having an estate of some kind, as they come in very handy... and I'm a bit loathe to spend 'half decent' money on one, if it's going to be a workhorse. So I thought about replacing the Skoda with a decent mid size hatch (306 ect) for the O/H and I'd have the Astra... BUT introduce it to a tin of NATO green and some hardcore grinder-on-coil action... ;D Thus.. P.S I know that's a 'MK2' (in fact it's a Kadett), but you get the idea...

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

don't mention this to NickB. Now, naturally, i'd say keep the Favorit , but a mk2 Astra estate (the 2 door one) would look class in nato green lowered over black steels!. Do it! I also quite like the 306 estates, but i would also recomend looking into felicia estates. There is an L&K one on eBay atm, and it has to be seen to be believed. Right Here Just check out the spec!! edit: metalic paint, leather interior, power steering, alloy wheels, CD player, electric seats, electric windows! wow! Skoda Overload!!!

Sounds good to me, and when you get bored you can sell it to NickB as a practical family car ;D

... in nato green lowered over black steels... Yeah, but so would nearly any car! Dangerously slammed green Mundaino on steels anyone?

Yeah why not, current daily drives sound fine too, nothing to lose. better the devil you know i say. but if you did fancy a change thes still some sierra estates about that builders haven't knackered, bit heavy on juice though.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Get yourself a Favorit, or if you fancy a little more luxury, Felicia Estate. Between those two models you have from 1992 through to 2000, with only minor spec changes and the one felicia facelift to contend with, but the later MPi Felicias are much more capable.
Now a military green or satin battleship grey Felicia pre-facelift with MPi engine and black steels might look quite good, especially if you can find some soviet era czech military badges for the door. Bit different to the usual Nato or USSR hammer and sickle.

exactly what i was thinking meatball... keep the favorit and its high suspension, put on some black steel wheels and do it khaki green. find a couple of cz flags on ebay to flutter from it and write some russian up the side of it - be much more effective as a commie car than the astra as a Un etc car, as its more recognisable... IMO

I thought about replacing the Skoda with a decent mid size hatch (306 ect) If you buy a 306, and happen to choose a turboid diseasel, there is a particular year (around S reg) where that were fitted with a different turbo to the earlier models, & this unit doesn't last as long.... My brother has just found this out the hard way on his 306. The turbo is also a right sod to remove as it's jammed between the engine and the bulkhead
