84" is ridiculously short- even a 103e pop is 6" longer than that!! I think youd actually struggle to find a car small enough to use that chassis, especially as for a car to look right fenderless it needs the front wheels hoofing forwards at least 6" over stock.
my model A is stretched to about 112-113", and my latest project is 115".

you could add a bolt on xmember to lengthen the wheelbase at the back, if it used the original suspension it shouldn't cost you any points, 80" is very short, early Landy short in fact which also has a usuable chassis.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

cheers for posting that HC, answers a few questions I had in my head about that truck. is that all the pics you have? personally I'm not a fan of that rollpan, looks too deep, make the ass end look 'dumpy'- like a goose! I can only assume its there to hide something under there, as is the box in the bed. but I love that is surfboard rack is made from a old wishbone and a spring leaf!! My pleasure ;D I'm afraid the other pics I have of it are rubbish, but I'll post them up all the same, in case they answer any questions for ya.. Totally agree about the -end, looks like saddlebags. Surfboard rack is FTW tho liking pretty much everything else about it.. What are your opinions on Jimmy Shine's pickup?

thanks, they do answer a few Qs.
shines pickup is arguably the best hot rod pickup truck ever built. perfect proportions and stance, with a build quality second to none. I'm yet to see better anyway! every single part of it is nigh on perfect in terms of concept and exectution, and it was built before the whole hotrod pickup thing really kicked off, it more or less created the trend(it must have been built a good 10 years now surely?). it was one of those cars id keep going back to the feature on again and again to look at the pics, lost my copy of CC with it in a while back though.
only thing id say is i don't like the artillery wheels, i much preferred it on wires.

I'm glad you said that - I LOVE Shine's pickup ;D probably my favorite ride of all time. A trend-setter for sure (had a big hand in starting the bare-metal fashion too I believe?) Whilst I could only consider myself a fan of hotrodding, rather than a hotrodder (at the moment ) I watch, read & learn everything I can get my hands/eyes on and have seen some of the best in the flesh. I'm also 'practicing' the skills required on my own silly creations Ahh, thread-jack! Back OT pics: No saddle-bags here! ;D HC.

And a Mini/Maxi Ooooff for that pickup too.
I do not know it intimately, but agree, that would be the ideal to build, but I suspect for now, if I can make it to the level of that pickups heels... I would be a happy man.

i love the B+W salt lakes pics of this car. they sum up hotrodding for me. when was this taken- 1955 or 2005? we all know the answer, but it could have so easily been 50 years earlier.... 'were in the middle of the desert and theres no one around- lets have some fun!" "oops. thatll be fecked then" the one thing i love about this car, is even though its entirely bare metal except for the wheels, engine block and some bits of interior, its always spotless- never a brown stain on it.

That & the blown flathead.. Ur right about the wheels tho, wires looked better Can't seem to find any pics of the interior; wasn't it done in green army canvas (parachutes?) with big poppers holding it down? (on the doors & seats)

I'm pretty sure thats not the same truck. theres at least 2 clones out there, ones got blue rims instead of red, and then theres that one thats gained a blower, more chrome bits, and painted chassis. hence it being no.3 not no.5 afaik the interior was a pair of bomber seats with green army canvas covers like you said, and they were painted in that gloss white army 'wash' kinda paint thats a really thin single coat. i can find pics of it either though.

I'm happy to stand corrected if I'm wrong, but on the TV series "Hard Shine" Jimmy completely stripped down & rebuilt the truck. He wanted to paint it as in his eyes it was never 'finished' which cause quite a row with Pete Chapouris so in the end he agreed & left it bare metal, like it always was. I'm pretty sure he had the chassis coated black (was going black & chrome before the argument) but definitely a fresh blower motor. There was an awesome scene of it running on a stand, but when he fitted it & fired up for the 1st time it curse word petrol everywhere!
Still not saying it's definitely not but must either be post re-build pics (with the others being pre) OR a very very good clone!
Knowing that clones of it exist has ruined my life - reckon any of their owners need a kidney?

you might be right, cos i aint seen that programme. if it is the same truck id be taking a sander to the chassis though, co its not as 'right' with it painted.
there is definatley a couple of clones out there though, but they're have a few differences which in my eyes makes them not quite as good as the original.

This pic shows the blower & painted chassis, but still has '5' on the side rather than '3' (plus Jimmy's in the pic!) - not sure if that's helped or indered... Maybe it's a clone of the latest incarnation? Either way I want one!

looks as though you're right then, its not the clone. I can see why he did it if he was planning to paint, but if its staying bare metal it really needs the chassis knocking back to bare metal cos the black breaks it up and makes it look disjointed. I even prefer it without the blower as it makes the crazy water pipes more noticable. mike, you know reading aint my strong point
