hey that rad fits nice... is it tight to the sides or whould there be room for some intercooler pipework round the sides?? do they have a fan switch built in too?? looks like it may suit my diesease-all.... si Looks a bit tight but i reckon you could get a pipe either side below the chassis leg area if you were planning a low mounted below-the-bumper jobbie and yes the rad has a fan switch built in(which I'm gonna change for a 2pin as the standard is 3). I finally managed to get through to my mate and will have the crane thurs night, welder is here tomorrow night so all systems go! Steve

Cool dude i might need someone with a bit more "skill" to help glue the engine mounts together as all i could get is a little 100amp jobbie..............better than superglue i suppose ;D Steve

Nice work Steve,
When you left on Sunday saying you were going to pull the engine out...you really meant it ;D
Now, do I give the game away seeing as you did with my engine swap?? Hmmm....would I really be that mean to you? LOL
Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't want to see you over at Area 52 until the swap is complete. You don't need distractions and although I love you popping over, I'd prefer to see this motor in and running the next time you visit. Unless of course you hit a major problemo and need someone to come and vent some frustration....
Keep up the good work. Should be a brace of cool Viva's on the A52 stand at the Gathering this year...

Craig: Dude you are awesome! See you saturday mate ;D MM: When ive got an idea mate.......i get straight on with it ;D This wont be as quick a job as i hoped due to lack of parts and funds but I'm hoping it will be done in time for the gathering Had a slight mojo hick-up last night as i decided mock-up the bellhousing Craig had loaned me only to find that the downpipe supplied with the lump wont fit a small problem but it just seemed to make me start questioning my choice what with the fact ive sooooooo many other parts to sort including a wiring loom and a gearbox&prop. Crane will be here tonight as the old man is picking it up on his way home so there might be a full reveal later if i can get the sodding *$£*?*£$%^ thing to fit! Steve

Hi gang Got the crane at about 7ish so got straight on with it and pulled the 1256 out Then as i just couldnt wait.......the new engine went in for a clearance check..... . . . . . . . . . . Ladies and Gentlemen............. I present to you the Ford 2.0 Twin-Cam engine ;D two of you guessed right(and many others knew straight away ) Yes, i know what people think of them but in the grand scheme of things its a cheap conversion.........and its not an XE Heres a pic of it in the 'bay: Its a bit of a tight fit i can tell you! There will be some cutting of the upper bulkhead(non-structural) and some "massaging" of the transmission tunnel for the Type9 'box thats gonna be fitted, I'm gonna have to find a shorter oil filter as thats catching the steering column and the exhaust route is going to be a mare of a job but not impossible The inlet JUST clears the servo&master cyl........can just get a finger between the two and the sump also JUST clears but may need a bit of a shave to be certain. Saturday i should have the help of Si (B8D) and possibly Craig (err...Craig ;D ) and between the three of us we might have the engine mounts done up and sorted a few other issues if there is time...............I cant wait! ;D Steve

damn that looks real good in there chap.. and good news that the inlet and sump looks a goer...!
exhausts are easy enough stuff... and hopefully the type nine wont be too bad enough have been fitted so hopefully it will go swimmingly..
it actually looks like there is loads of room in there.. but as i know from experience photos and first looks can be decieving... si

the great thing is, you could upgrade to a 2.3 block from a scorpio and a 16v head from a mk5 rs2000 and have bucket loads of power;)

get on the sierra forum for the 2.3 8 valve info. oil filter is same as ohc & one of the reno's uses a shorter filter with same fitment but can't remember which. you'll need a 10mm spacer between block & bellhouseing to fit type 9 to twink or clutch won't work (will be disengaged all time) & same with starter.

theres more to life than mpg & to much power is just enough.

Thanks for your comments everyone Yesterday started out with the hope that the engine position would be finalized and some mounts made up.................didnt quite get to making mounts unfortunatly as some sump space had to be found. Started out with me and Si (B8D) going hunting for some steel to make the mounts out of, went up an industrial estate not far from home to a steel fabrications place and asked if we could have a look through there scrap bin.........one little pile of various bits of steel=FREE ;D Got back and after a little corner shop breakfast got straight into taking the engine so the bulkhead could be modified, all that was needed was the corners of the "shelf" cutting back and a few spots of weld put back as its double skinned. After that.........not alot happened other that alot of tea drinking and much chat whilst we waited the arrival of Craig and the mock-up 'box.........but Si did go and dig sumat out the boot of his car................. Still a bit undecided on it but I'm keeping it until the car comes out of the garage so as to make a proper decision and stick it down properly ;D It appears that it was possibly meant for a mk2 escort, even so its the right width and very close to the right curve for the bootlid........might work well when i have my front spoiler fitted As for the engine, between the three of us we messed around trying to get the engine&box in the car in one lump.........that didnt work so put the engine in then tryed putting the box in after.........THAT didnt work! The gearbox tunnel wants a bit of easing out at the back, no biggie. The engine wants to sit upright, the cyl head is parallel to the bulkhead and the front of the sump is more or less sat on the subframe...........it was decided that the sump would come off and it lose some meat of the front so as to allow the engine to sit further forward so we could tilt it back a bit and make the tunnel issues less of an issue. Thanks to Si and Craig for all your help and banter (the things i put up with ) Steve
