The actually took the rear styling and door glass from the 69 mustang and added the louvres off the 64-68. I don't think they ever tried to hide the fact that they did it either ;D

Darren, That particular Gloria you're looking at is the A30 series. The Gloria was another model (the most known being Skyline) that was rebadged Nissan after the Nissan/Prince merger in the 60's. As with most cars of the time it also came in wagon form. I believe the latest NHOA pics have a few Gloria's in them... last year I came very close to buying a Prince Gloria but didn't quite have the moolah (as per usual). I have a few pics round and about but know you know it's an A30, it will make it easier to search

Also, in regards to the Celica's the notchback RA28 looks similar to the Mustang and the coupe TA22 shares it's lines with the Camaro.

Correct, in fact Toyota 'PR' are actually proud of this fact, it was also done to entice american buyers with something they could relate too as the Mustang 2 Shape of 1974-78 was not so liked when new. Toyota even admit they shiped some Mustangs back to Japan which the striped down and rescaled the rear body panels. To me a clever move from the Japanese ...again

Great pic's! I know a guy in Finland who has just bought one of those early Glorias - they have bits of Chevy Impala and Dodge Polara about them.
I think the reason for adopting an American style was as much to do with the home market as export requirements. The early J-cars were generally basic utilitarian devices to suit then tough domestic conditions. Going into the 60's the export side of their business grew and they looked abroad for help and inspiration (America and Europe, Italy in particular). Some of these designs were really quite graceful and elegant.
By the 70's Japanese society had become more affluent and was confident enough to display its wealth, so America was a natural role model for the more opulent and luxurious cars (ie. flashy!) which resulted. The C110 Skyline like Kyteler's was even called Kenmeri, meaning American.
While being true in some cases, I don't believe that the cars that looked most American were meant to appeal to US buyers - in fact some were never even imported there (like CROWN and Cedric).

I think so, just some kind of play on words? I suspect Kyteler can tell us more, as he is lucky enough to have one (jealous). Ratdat has a whole series of Japanese TV ad's on video featuring Ken and Mary with their C110s.
Got that 2nd kit in my pile awaiting construction.
For the 1980s Langley they came up with a couple called Paul and Paula, don't know what that was about.
