For the first time in my driving career (15 years!) it looks like ill be buying some new tyres.
Always bought part worns and used whatever decent brand they had.
So, now i have a choice of many and have no idea where to start.
Its for a MK2 gti, i don't drive it that hard. They need to be able to cope with all weather, decent wet grip would be nice. Hopefully cost around £40 each?
Oh, i need 195/50/15.
Theres plenty to choose from!
Thanks.

If you can stretch to about £50 each I tend to recommend Avons. Bags of grip, bags of life - tend to be way better as all rounders than anything else around that price.
Obviously that's just my experience, and I've only been driving 6 years.

Ok, they go in the 'consideration' list What are the cheaper toyo's like? Cant remember the name. Feels odd considering new tyres, almost a feeling of panic LOL

A vote from me for the toyo's especially at that price. I'll also put a vote in for Hankook (sp?) have had good experiances with them, and usually well priced too.

i always go for yokies but there isn't much choice on my tyre size - i did have a pair of continentals on the back before & they weren't too bad, longer wearing than the yokies anyway.

T1r is the best out of those.
The Proxes 4 are the next best (PX4)

I'm sure you've already seen this place, but have a looky here for some of the best prices you'll find: www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s99p0Yoko's and Avons for under £40 each (WOW!) but I would still go for the T1's personally. The Toyo CF1's are more of a 'conventional' road tyre. A little less sporty than the T1's or T4's.

I've just ordered a set of T1R's for the Saab Aero - but they're way more than this since they're 225/45/17's.
It's currently got Continental Sport 2's on, and I've got under 7000 miles out of a set!

Contis are cack. I've seen cooking spec Focus/Focus C-Max much through a pair on the front in like 10,000 miles.

Yoko's are ace for grip & handling but are very soft and will wear out a lot quicker than the Toyo's.
I'd still say go for the T1r's - 25% cheaper than the Yokos and will last longer. You won't find a better tyre for the money.

Goodyear Eagle F1's.
AP Tyres in Rotherham will fit them for £8.00 each if you buy online.
