I saw an old corolla the other day and the number plate font was diferent , they were original dealer plates, so legit. They looked nortmal but I can't explain it.......the number '4' was open at the top, like a digital watch more sort of roundy.
An idea's, as I need new plates and hate the new ones, to sharp edges.
OR should I get a life ?

Serck plates came out in the early 80's as far as I know. I suppose the law was a bit looser as to what fonts were allowed (No ANPR back then ) My old Mk3 Escort had Serck plates, original dealer jobs.

No, all plates fitted now have to be new font.
If they had been fitted years ago they would still be legal, but to fit them today wouldnt be.

Of course, the fact that a set of period-correct plates could've been fitted at any time at all in the car's history is no excuse for breaking the law... ;D

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I have been wanting to vent about THESE: I was driving behind one of these the other day and found myself simply drinving straight into the back of it when it stopped, in attempt to break the number plate into more easily managable pieces. So yeah, those serck ones are much easier to drive behind.....

Back to serck....I know the whole legallity side of plates and the like, but I agree that there isn't really a way of finding out when they were put on, apart from carbon dating. However I think I'll give it a miss, shame.

However I think I'll give it a miss, shame. Yeah, cause we all know if you have an illegal font all the domesticated bunnies on the planet will turn on their owners and rape and kill them.

I might be wrong, but I thought Serck plates were pretty much unobtainable now.

;D Still have them on one of ours..... And (oh joy!) it has a 4 in it, so it's really obvious. They are neat indestructible stamped ally plates, so not going anywhere soon (passed the test last week).

Holy God, are you lot actually discussing the font used on a license plate? Who gives a rat fark? It's right there with whether my toothbrush has a purple handle or a blue one....
Does anyone know if air used in 1985 is better air than current 2009 air for filling tyres?

Holy God, are you lot actually discussing the font used on a license plate? Who gives a rat fark? Err, we do - cos unlike your plates that move with the owner, our plates stay with the car and so form part of it, kinda like part of the patina of an old car. Anal, maybe but then when you have a gubberment like ours that has three primary aims - tax, snoop, control - you have to hit back in as many little ways as you can find... On a positive note, have a couple of pics of plates... ;D

We've got those up in QLD, only the damn things are colour coded! So yeah, those serck ones are much easier to drive behind.....
