ImpManiac: You might have trouble. In the UK there is something like 49 Estelles and 56 Rapids still registered/taxed/MOT'd on the road.
Probably a load more in parts, but it really show how effective the germans can be trying to change history. VAG passed an edict that no new Skoda franchise was to do anything to preserve any rear engined cars. If possible they were to get them off the owners and scrap them. No matter how good the condition.

Tough one, first and foremost for me is the Imp, but after that you've got various Tatras and Skodas as close seconds, the ZAZ 966 is a bit cool but I won't nominate it because as cool as they are in a 'Ukranian Imp' kind of way, the apalling reliability and build quality sort of strike them off of the best rear engined car ever thing, unfortunately they made Imps look bulletproof build and reliability wise! ;D

Gotta be a 911 for me, and not wanting to be specific but a 1973 RS 2.7 would be the kiddy. I remember the article this pic came from in Performance Car. Bike v`s car. The bike trounced the porsche on pretty much everything. The porsche was driven by Howard Lees who went on to become editor of Car design and technology which used to be a really good magazine but just after he took over he was killed in a light aircraft crash and the magazine never resurfaced

Didn't know the rest of that story! CCC Mag did a similar thing in the 70s with an Aston V8 Vantage and a superbike of some sort. The bike won, but the Aston beat it in a few of the tests...
