This looks stunning, lovely to see a standard minter! I so nearly almost bought one of these in 1995, but went for a 19 16v instead: biiiiig mistake that cost me a lot in 12 months. Good to see all the electrics are working, too. I can see this place is going to end up costing me money

I love it! Can't remember the last time I saw pics of a stock one, especially as good as that. And I also can't remember the last time I saw one out on the roads, modified or stock :/
Looks great, especially on the first set of wheels. Perfect colour.

Finally someones got an original R5GTT. Looks like it's survived very well even retaining the textured bumpers. Can I ask for a load more pics including the bottom of the windscreen where the seal joins and inside the door shuts where the pillar and sill meet!?!?! Also glad to see you sourced a new blanking plate/cover for the front bumper. I remember doing the same years ago when I had my 5 and ordering a new cover from the local Renault dealer and you could still buy them brand new back then. Oh yeah and just to say that I agree with the direction which your taking this 5. OE is best as there's far to many "tweaked" versions out there.

I havent got any pics of the door shuts or window surround, but they are fresh with absolutely no rot. The shuts had some tacky lockwood sill protectors (now binned) which has saved them from wear & the sills have been injected with cavity wax. I also remember when the blanking plates were about a fiver new from the stealers! Long since discontinued, a fair few of the parts are no longer available these days. Over the last couple of weeks I have been restoring/detailing the engine bay, will grab a few pics when the weather fairs up. Dug my dslr out for a few pics the other night, shame I forgot to clean the lense!

Well spotted, it is running 14psi boost at carb top & I have rejetted the carb to suit. Stock 10 psi feels so slow...
Still returns 35 mpg on a run with steady driving!

Make sure that turbo heatshield thermostatic switch is anchored down. I remember mine jumping out and shorting out the wiring. Was soooo close to igniting but stopped just in time. Got it all fixed and my mechaninc lockwired it into place as it was a known fault. Looking forward to lots more pics

Ok its been a while since i updated this! Done a lot of detailing on the paintwork last year and replacing parts, showed it at the Renault turbo owners club national day last year at mallory park and won best standard r5gtt & best standard engine bay in the show and shine. Also got invited to bruntingthorpe for a photoshoot with other renault hot hatches last november with Redline mag, the feature is in this months copy. Done 0-60 in 6.9 secs & 130mph on the 1.25 mile with the datron timing gear Faster 0-60 than the new clio rs200 On show at mallory park Dug my dslr out for some night shots lastnight in front of the transporter bridge in middlesbrough.

I could hardly believe my luckl. New job, knew I was going to get a car (cars were perks back then, not work tools!) but was told I was restricted to a 1.4 litre because of my age. What they didn't work out was that the GTT was only a 1.4 litre engine - result! It never went wrong in my ownership, just used tyres which were a really unusual size from memory. I upgraded the sounds out of my own pocket and drove the thing everywhere as fast as I could. The only car I ever remember overtaking me anywhere was an Aston Martin Lagonda and that was only because I wanted a good look! All of my mates were knocking about in knackered old Escorts, Cortinas and Avengers and were extremely envious of my good fortune as I had the fastest and coolest car!

Wow... I can't believe how untouched she is. Not even had a dump valve fitted!
Please just keep her totally standard and get the original 13s back on her. My first car and one of my favourites of all time. Just saying that dash and interior is bringing back so many memories.
Well done buying her!
