My ex found a webber carb down in southampton today were he works. Its off a mk2 1.3 1988 golf, now i was told that u could fit a 1.3 golf carb stright on to the polo as there the same!?! They are charging £45 for the carb but needs a new base plate and need's cleaning now is it worth buying it? And can you turn webber to automatic choke, or do they have to stay manual? Ps hope i'm not chatting like a chav anymore ;D ;D ;D

I don't think you can convert a Weber to auto choke..... You will certainly need a base / conversion plate between your manifold and the weber. Good purchase: Yes, definately - you may even see an 3bhp increase without an effect on mpg!

so this mean gonna cost me alot more money, and how do i clean a webber, as i aint gonna be the one that strrips it down, maybe i could stick it in mummy dishwasher ;D ;D

I believe your Polo (if it's not been changed) will not have a Weber carn already....
These plates are avaiolable from lots of places - ITRO £25
Cleaning: Stirp it right down and clean it with some carb cleaner......

www.webcon.co.uk will give you your nearest dealer They will be able to source a new baseplate and supply the overhaul kit for it. And tell you the correct jets to fit a 1.3 so you can check yours when you strip it I did mine last week, £24 for the kit £4 for Carb cleaner Easy to do. Clean the outside first Take it apart and clean out everything. Replace all the parts with the bits in the kit Put back together HTH Dom PS Grammar, punctuation and spelling are showing a marked improvement Just like the quality of replies ;D

hang the carb off the golf is 1.3, which if in correct is the same engine as mine expect the cam belt (she think) is the oppsite side. Mine is the same as it twin choke one, same the golf?
So the jets should be fine, so that means all i need is a base plate, and some carb cleaner, Not my mums dishwasher!

Correct - but what Dom is saying is, while you've got the carb apart for cleaning you can double check it's got the correct needle(s) / jets in it....nothings worse than taking it apart, cleaning it, putting it back together, fitting it and then finding out it's got the wrong needle(s) / jets in it!!

Yeah. Don't be afraid to rip the carburettor to bits. As already mentioned, they're simple devices. Plus you have the luxury of already having a running car, so if it all goes wrong, no worries! ;D That's a good position to be in! If you refurbish the Weber properly, you will be utterly amazed at the difference it makes! Fuel consumption might actually improve and driveability will be in a whole new league. Hey, I'm in Herts too! ;D There are a few RRers here, I think. I'm
