Totally agree with a lot of things already said, i don't find the cars that bad, what i REALLY REALLY can't stand, are the presenters and the constant " kid/teen speak " from people that clearly don't ever speak like that off camera......makes my blood boil .....SHUT UP !! Could be such a good series, but falls woefully short in so many areas.

No...Westwood speaks like that constantly. Even more irritating in person.
I prefer the UK one to the US one but prefer Xzibit as a presenter.
Carisma are pretty good when it comes to doing work on the cars...Unfortunately a lot of it is dictated by the presenters.
Samyboy - the paintjob on the moggy was great...the only bad thing about the entire car was the wheels in my view.

The one where they do the west-country-bumpkin-rocker's hearse will have you cowering behind the sofa. It's baaaaaad. And I don't mean good.

I did like the Moggy, I saw it at the NEC the other week, and it looks good...i even like the wheels... always a bit depressing when they don't stick a big engine under the bonnet...the capri and panda ones were absolutely terrible -body kit on a Panda!?

I'd never get on that show, I would find it to hard to resist either taking the curse word out of westwood or just thumping the pr*ck and telling him to grow up!
Besides which, I'd want them pay a bit more attention to the running gear, suspension and engine. Or aren't pimped rides about that?

It would take them twice as long if they did the running gear, it's just not the point of the show really.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I saw the Minor at the NEC and the paint and interior are very high quality. I actually thought the car looked better driving down the road than when it was parked up at tyhe NEC.
The Top Gear Lada did look awesome, but twin cam Ladas have been around for years...........

That's true, I suppose the Fiat twin cam's done because it's tried and tested and people know that it fits and works well, but it would be cool to see a Lada with a conversion that hadn't been done before, I'd love to see one of the factory built Wankel-rotary equipped Zhiguli-type Ladas in the flesh (Lada have been building small amounts of rotary engines for years, the KGB even had some Volgas with them in, although those weren't successful because the rotor tips and some other parts have always been made with much less durable materials than the Mazda rotaries because of costs and the technology at the factory etc, so the engines don't last long. I do think a Zhiguli saloon with a modern Mazda rotary would be pretty cool though, not sure how much room there would be for the turbos etc from the RX7 but even the non-turbo'd RX8 engine produces an impressive amount of power and torque, that'd be bloody cool in a stealthy looking Lada!

he's away working on a container ship at the moment, so we've got a couple of weeks to get it out...just put the lada engine in his RX-8 - not like he'll notice the difference

Hurrah, I'm glad someone else knows about this Did you know that before the colapse of communism Mazda couldn't 'sue them' for copywright/patent design, although they wanted to. After 1991 believe they stopped producing it (officially) for this reason. Some of these Rotary powered Ladas/Zhigulis/Baz2's did end up sold in Finland. I believe the one used in the 1983 film Gorky Park (which was actually filmed in Finland) was one of these. Also did you know there was a Two-stroke engined Lada/Zhiguli for home market

I know the bloke who had the Lotus Lada; in fact I bought the exhaust on my Marina GT off him about eighteen months ago. We got on to the subject of the Lada; it was his daily drive and was done as a dare to see if TG would do it. After it came back, he was chuffed with it but the reliablility was dire; any wet weather and it would die and after about six months of struggling to work with it he gave up and bought a 1971 Moskvich estate. It was also a bit of a numpty magnet - suffice to say after trying to sell it on he eBayed it. As he said, anyone with the specs of a rally Fiat could have nailed one together and probably have got it more reliable.
