Right, someone has made me an offer on XYJ and is coming to see her next weekend, so hopefully I should have some folding by then. Now, even if she doesn't sell, I'll still need your help! I have a budget of 1500 quid, maximum and want the following - - Fastish - preferably sub 9 seconds to 60 - MUST be rear wheel drive, no options here - Handle fairly well - Comfortable - Not fussed about modifications, although something low and noisy would be good - Must sound good, of course, no whiney engines please! - Be interesting, fairly funky and different. - Not too big! Now the thing is, I'm not aware of many RWD cars, apart from BM's, Mercs & Volvos. Problem is, I don't know much about the BM range apart from looking at a 316 recently (2 door) and those E28's, but I'm not sure if I like the E28's.......so I need your recommendations, preferably with a picture! My list so far consists of: - Dolomite Sprint (reckon you can beat it because it's my #1 at the moment) - Triumph 2500 (reckon I won't like that, too big a saloon) And that's it ....See, i need help! I suspect that there aren't many alternatives! Preferably it can be something that will stand up to a bit of track work as i would like to start sprinting , too Oh god, the demands!

Easy - get a Volvo Amazon!!!!!! A B20 (2 litre), twin carb & o/d one should fit all your criteria. Very tight lock, so would probably be good for sprinting too!

low-mileage 318iSI have a budget of 1500 quid should just about squeeze through.... the naff wheels & private auction style should keep the cost down... - Fastish - preferably sub 9 seconds to 60 Yep. No worries there- MUST be rear wheel drive, no options here check - Handle fairly well handles alot better then 'fairly well- Comfortable errr.... comfortable-ish is probably the best description. Perfect driving position but rock-hard seats!!- Not fussed about modifications, although something low and noisy would be good low-ish....for noise see below- Must sound good, of course, no whiney engines please! fairly quiet at town speeds but open it up and hear it howl like a banshee!!- Be interesting, fairly funky and different. rarity & pimp-ability must be plus points?- Not too big! again... check!!Put it on the list lad!

Hmm......that's an interesting one actually, although I don't consider 'em to look to "sporty". (the amazon) One option is get something like that black Dolomite SE on Ebay, put some nice wheels on it and tune it's engine with a pair of snorting 40's, big exhaust, toughen it up and detail it myself...because that'd be well within budget. Or any 1500, to be honest Yea, I do like the BM's and would be ace to have a mildly tuned one, nice wheels, racing-style look......will keep an eye out. Are there any models besides the 318iS you recommend? Definitely adding it to the list - almost bought (I know it weren't fast though) a mint 316, really early one, in MK, was gorgous in red Would a 325 not be a better bet for more-mid range torque? I think a 3.5 would be a nice upgrade then

Well if you own shares in Shell, get a 325i Sport. It's quicker in a straight line... although some say that the 6-pot engine blunts the handling. Also you'll struggle to find a sport that isn't one MoT from the scrappy at that price 8-valve 4-cyl models are a little dreary. The only other option is to gamble all your £1500 on 'Sad Ken' in the 3.30 at Kempton Park.... pray that you win and then blow the lot on an M3....

Also if you fancy a teensy bit of work, this one could be a bloody bargain!! 318iS needs tlcI quite fancied this as a 'breaker' as it's local and cheap, but if you fancy it, go for it!!

Now that, that is quite interesting. Do those tune well?
vRSkodaNorman, I do like your red one but I'm never too keen on the grill - although that 4 door one does look funky. What is it?

the blue 4 door is an estelle with an evo kit on and some big wheels, the other one, with all the spots, is a 105 lux rally mobile.
the spot grilles aren't standard, an extra, the grille on the car above mine is a standard grille.

cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-ESCORT-MK2-1600-GHIA-BLUE-1976_W0QQitemZ4589744851QQcategoryZ29755QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem- Fastish - preferably sub 9 seconds to 60 hmmm, for the money youve saved you could fit a 2.0 (i or no i) for about £500, but even so, its a 711m block 1600 crossflow thats the same as the sports and harriers,. and mk1 mexico's - MUST be rear wheel drive, no options here check, and a solid rear axle too, so a little more tailhappy - Handle fairly well it wasnt the most successfull rally car ever built because it looked the part - Comfortable ghia level trim, so nice bouncy seats, and the most matress like rear bench ove ever seen - Not fussed about modifications, although something low and noisy would be good cheap as chips to modify, all the rally bits go straight on. eg full 2" system = £60 - Must sound good, of course, no whiney engines please! hmmmmm, set of carbs and your laughing - Be interesting, fairly funky and different. check! (just don't keep it standard) - Not too big! check! surprisingly narrow
