Is that 4% off the house price for each "old banger"?
If so, I'm personally responsible for knocking £15,600 off every house in the square where I live, thereby helping all those first-time buyers who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford a house.
;D ;D

A few years ago (about 10 actually) I had a letter from my letting agent threatening eviction if I didn't dispose of the 'offensive' car outside my house. The car?: It was fully MOT'd and taxed too! Luckily the agency weren't so blinkered and couldn't see any problem. I resisted submitting a similar complaint about my neighbour's far more offensive Mk5 Escort!

Very good point johnny. funny thing is i was looking at a place to rent in a scally/professional area, and theres a neat looking slightly 80's-90's modded beetle next door i thought; neighbours look cool!
Suppose with some of the sad people (the ones who can afford houses and new shiney cars) have no idea. and if i was trying to sell a house (not likely) gotta admit i might be tempted to put a fancy new car outside for viewings after reading that!
although they are hoping to sell new vauxhalls by the look of it!

mwahahahaha ! one works' white van, an old polo, a ratty wedge and the neighbours folding caravan seem to be stopping the house across the road from selling.

I think my Skoda is sort of looked down on by the neighbour's across the street with a merc and more insulting the family who's son has a mk5 chavvy 'scrote.

My neighbours just had their house valued at £270,000. F*ck knows how much it would have been worth if I didnt have 13 cars on my land. ;D ;D

If there was someone with a load of cars I'd think bonus, someone to help me do jobs on the car. My dad's very guilty of being one of the snobby types who don't like old bangers on the property, hence only one car when I could afford a few. Maybe I need some lockups!

I read that this morning, and it made me think that people are really shallow if they judge a neighbourhood by what people drive. Then I remebered how much grief we get from our neighbours cos they mostly have 1 or 2 practicle modern motors, and we have 2 vans and 4 cars on our drive or in use. Why are people so stupid that they can't see past what cars people choose to run?

"Estate agents have estimated a bomb in the neighbour’s yard can wipe off an average of 5.5% from the true value of a house. That’s roughly £10,000 for the average home, or more than £30,000 off the price of a detached house in greater London." Yes, I'd guess that your neighbour having an explosive device in the garden would knock your house price down....
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Yes, I'd guess that your neighbour having an explosive device in the garden would knock your house price down.... interesting, i wonder if any first timer desperate would try this! i think i'm guilty to judging cars, i went to look at a rapidly inflating area in salford, an area thats notorios for roughness (rightly or wrongly) couldnt believe how many new cars there were everywher in this part. My J reg sierra was the oldest, and i see my sierra as new ish! so i though this area looks good. how wrong, but if there were loads of burnt out mk4 escorts and chavved up novas that would defo put me off obviously! I think people cant see difference between a stylish retro machine and a banger owned by scallys

Sadly for me it's the other way round.... by filling my driveway with crud there will be ZERO effect.... This is due to the impossibly poorly planned & executed development smack across the road from me....... matey bought a semi hoping to lash another house to the end on it's large plot & make a quick buck within 6 months..... 18 months later and all we get to look at is an unfinished blockwork shell (which is pretty pi$$-poor to begin with!) coz the developer has run out of money and is trying to sell it finished without actually finishing it....or even discharging the planning application...... tw@T!!!! the guy who revalued our house reckoned my old marina sat on the drive did nothing to devalue it compared to this carbuncle across the road, which is knocking £20,000 off adjacent property prices. I have this in writing too, so if necessary i can launch a civil case against the developer, should i want to move or remortgage......
