I think that it's reasonable to expect people not to go daft and start hooning around drunk in their motors. OK we had an incident last year, but I think a sign and a flier will be enough, with barring from the show as the penalty. I think that invites mutual respect and there are consequences should anyone break the rule. Plus there will be plenty of RR'ers there to put a stop to any such clowning.  To me that seems reasonable - it sort of echoes how we conduct ourselves on the forum - there's no heavy handedness here and it's 99% self-policing, and it works extremely well. The solution is blindingly obvious. It's option 3, but with HT Leads What about drunk diesel drivers?! ;D |

Just seen this thread after getting shirty on the other thread, lol. I think a family/quiet area is a good idea regardless of the original intention of this thread.. Those who want their kids in the adult getting drunk bit, its up to them, and those adults that want a reasonable nights sleep would be welcome in the family bit. Win Win Also think option 1 is the only real option, as people have said - with consequences, car pass torn up and ejected from the campsite etc. |

You wont be able to stop everybody (sadly, there is always a few dickheads), but i think signage and maybe a few fliers handed out on the way in would help.

but of a tough one this esp as i like to go for a midnight-3am drive on the weekend when the roads are empty..
its more the drinking and driving thing and driving like a twot in the campsite i wont tolorate..
i think the sign is the way to go..
obviously if anyone doesnt obay the rules they should be chucked out no questions asked....

don't know how to police it but the late night do-nuts last year were proper shat!!!!  :(its not as if you can force a complete driving ban as i wouldnt want to get punched in the face for arriving late if.... A.. i get lost.....or B....i break down.... |

I agree.. option one plus some widely published punishment that is actually enforced should anyone mess around. It should probably be extended t driving like a numpty at any time around the campsite not just after dark.. drinks etc will still flow in the day i'm sure!
Speed limit signs and taped off 'roads' through the camping area could help too?

As one of the offenders from last year I'm treading carefully here but I'll suggest what the NSRA do at their events. 9pm curfew on driving unless you're just arriving and anyone driving around is ejected and banned from future events if necessary. Camping has a quiet/family area, which is sensible because some do stay up later than others.
Personally I think if it's made clear that no late night driving is allowed then it won't happen. Maybe a flyer on the way in.

Jonny69 - sounds like a reasonable idea. Sorry to throw fuel on the fire, but I certainly wouldn't give anyone the keys to my car. Sorry guys but that's just asking for trouble. Option 1 is the best idea. I want to camp beside my car (if it will make it on to the campsite)! I think the idea of a seperate quiet area is brilliant. I'm one of the late nighters, so I don't want to be annoying people trying to sleep. I wasn't at the show last year, but I was there in '07 and from what I remember it worked pretty well re the campsite. The only problem I remember was that I managed to pitch my tent beside the massive lights so it was daytime all night  |

Well, I'm certainly not giving in my keys as me, the wife and our boy will be sleeping in our van.
Agree with point 1; just treat each other like adults. If someone acts like a child, throw them off site (as soon as they are sober enough to drive) and give them a ban from the next show. We are a good bunch of people on here and I think after a few people let the side down last year, there will be enough folk to police and stop such activity happening again.

I think after a few people let the side down last year, there will be enough folk to police and stop such activity happening again. I think that's the approach I would love to see working - peer pressure and a quiet word before it get silly I guess in a way I started the topic but my feelings are still the same - I don't want to see anyone hurt (in a car or outside it) most people don't drink and drive on public roads - why the hell a small number of people think its acceptable to hoon around a camp site when curse word I just don't understand. If I see it likely to happen I'm more than happy to have a word but I think the flyer idea has some merit - just a reminder when you are sober that some things aren't acceptable and could result in someone being asked to leave |

I was working on the assumption that any diseasel drivers would be far too 'sensible' to drink-drive  ;D ;D How about some good old-fashioned redneck policing? Like HTW & rmad sitting near the gate in a couple of rocking chairs, whittling away on a carb jet, with a couple of twelve-bores within arms' length? |

When I first read the HT lead idea, I did think yeah, that would work... rig up a 12v cattle prod to enforce the rules with ;D then I noticed you meant just remove them to prevent cars being driven. My bad |
