Righty-o, Ive had this barn for a while and so far its been used as tat storage. however, I want to actually start USING it! LOL So I hope by posting this project thread I may "get on it!" Its located 1 mins drive from my house(!) and about 4 minutes on a bicycle. Its located within spitting distance of my local. Location wise, its blaaaady perfect! Just got to get it up to scratch! Have a pic.... First things on the list is to get the lights working, pigeon proof it and then I have an issue that I need you chaps help with.... As painful as it is to admit I am seriously afraid of spiders. Sadly, my barn seems to be spider heaven! Now I know that if I spent more time up there, moved stuff around often, then the little blighters tend to not infest the place, but has anyone got any tips that WORK on how to dissuade them from nesting in my barn? Theres loads of 'gadgets' and what not that claim to do the job, but I'm dubious. Anyhooo.... onwards!

I don't know how available it might be in UK, but here in France, most hardware stores that sell flyspray and ant powder and stuff also do a fumigation "bomb" that kills pretty much anything with more than 4 legs.
Its a tin about the size of a small tin of beans, you pop the ringpull and take the lid off and there is a wick/fuse that you light and then run away. It burns away in the tin giving off a huge amount of smoke that kills off multi-legged things. A barn that size might need a few tins lit at once, and it will need to be draught-proofed to prevent the smoke just dispersing outside - the longer the smoke is contained the more effective it is. Then its just a case of sweeping/hoovering up all the dead ones on the floor.
I do my whole house quite regularly - the spiders here are chuffing HUGE.

Box em all up and shove em in my garage, I love spiders for some odd reason.
They are excellent at keeping Flies away.
No idea how to remove them but as you said more activity up there will keep them away.

I'm not bothered by spiders at all, i went to sleep last night with a massive one on the wall above my bed. My Girlfriend however is terrified of them, she finds them far less scary when she has a hoover to suck then up close to hand. ;D

To keep them away spray all the walls and stuff with citronella, spiders taste with their feet, and they hate the stuff, so don't come in

Is it red? No! Then it's not a Barn!!
I do hear conkers work as well, never tried it but mum does and I don't see spiders in her greenhouse.

thanks for the tips guys! citronella sounds good will try that.
Need to get back up there!
How is it I'm not working and STILL theres never enough hours in the day? mad.
Likely hood of getting up there over the next 2 weeks is nigh on nil due to needing to get the senator welded up and tested for the gathering. and making lucy the viva run. and get the van sorted. AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! LOL

not being funny but try therapy, immersion therapy is good, like at petting zoo's where you have to touch em n shiz.
Spiders in the UK can not harm you and as stated are great insect control. learn to love them, they also make great companions on long days when all ya mates are in the warm at home or down the pub.
sweet barn, post up progress pics.

Very rarely see spiders or flies at mine. Think the cats munch them before they get to far in. Have a blast on the barn, then you've got somewhere more suitable to fix the fleet rather than just store the hibernating ones.
I can give you a few hours on Sunday.

I am well up for helping at some point. I can't do this weekend, or the one after, but in a few week my schedule will be back to normal!
