Heroic project Seth and being so rare doesn't need mods to be a stunner, other than what you've already mentioned. I'm sure you'll make a great job of it. Have a pic of a Standard Vanguard estate just because it made me think of one.

Yeah, maybe I should open a book on projected on-the-road dates. VIP is pretty close given the daughter's age! Anyhow, some Americans elsewhere wrote... Vanguard is an interesting comparison A68. Though it obviously has too many doors Planning a trip down to take my trailer back, sort some stuff out and take some "proper" photos tomorrow. (looks at watch...) Errr later.

Thanks for the tips Steve, A68. Already found ;D The TS engine/box on Ebay could be quite handy and will be interesting to see what it goes for too.

Cool cars, those, didnt know they were worth that much? There`s two Combi`s for sale in norway, one restored one for 4500 pounds, and one project, for 300....

So, not a huge amount to report on this as yet, other than I put up some shelves in the dungeon to take all the various parts and the shell has now been rolled so its next to the Oxford (give or take the odd dragster ) But last week I had a message from Paul H linking me to a couple of Ebay auctionsm one of which I'd already seen but the other I hadn't. Items were duly purchased ;D First up an original English market handbook. Its dated March '59 which is nice as that's not too far off the manufacture date of my car. Its a really nice quality book with a load of good info. The sections are divided by tabs and I like the detail of the pages having a small cut out by the tab to try and prevent tearing. There's a small separate section on the Combi... and a fold out lube chart (and a wiring diagram too) Item two is the one I had missed and having seen one go for too much money a couple of weeks ago I hit the BIN on this as it was a tenner cheaper. A very nicely detailed model indeed and the same model type too with the small diamond grille and the long lights. Never thought I'd find one of a Combi! I had though that red would really complement the car too. This backs that up. So I'm a happy bunny at the moment as these will hopefully provide some inspiration at the low points that are sure to come...

Nearly four months since an update? Well that'd be because I've not done anything to it Its existence is not entirely being ignored though. I'm keeping an eye out (Ebay obviously!) for anything that comes up that might be of use. As I've got so many parts there's not been much point bidding on the occasional spare bit that pops up as I may already have three. Mostly its just fridge magnets, magazine articles, models etc... but this week I found something I will certainly be needing at some stage and was well worth getting "in stock" . Even my complete engine will need to come apart for a good look-see so getting a NOS head gasket set for £16 inc postage seemed like a good idea.

nice work mate! Whoa, hasnt four months gone fast though! I'm the same with the bus, nothing much progressing but still in my mind with certain bits being bought etc. With the projects and workload on I'm a little surprised you have time to even be browsing ebay!! lol Keep collecting mate, you're gonna have a wonderful back catalogue by the time you're able to give this 100% of your time!

£16.00 for a nos h/g set is excellent news. Nice to see the parts are still out there and not given the usual eBay 'unobtanium' prices. Did you know that the 'restoration' show is on this weekend? www.bccsl.co.uk/Si will be there with his company. If I get chance, might pop along myself on Sunday. <EDIT> Check lot 15 here: www.charterhouse-auctions.co.uk/CS19081109/page1.htm as an example of the sort of thing that may appeal to you <EDIT>

Well, I said I wasn't going to do anything to it before I finished the Oxford and I'm being true to my word. The poor Borgward has sat unloved since I bought it, and other than moving and re-organising some of the parts I haven't touched it. Seeing as it is taking up valuable space though I found a holiday home for it in North Wales and yesterdays Awards evening prompted Mr fromWales to chug down with the tat hauler pick up and trailer to collect it. Out into daylight for the first time in 18 months. Actually that was the first attempt. I didn't fancy a dented roof so Kev had to reverse back down, we loaded the wheels he was taking and his mighty jack inside the Borgward and with my weight hanging off it too it just cleared the entrance way by less than an inch. Kev got busy strapping down while I tried to look helpful. I've photoshopped some facial hair to protect his identity. And off we went back up through mid afternoon Central London traffic. Kev wasn't worried, honest! I call this "Slot Mags and Marble Arch" Its quite funny watching reactions to this combination. Several pedestrians took steps back from the edge of the pavement as we approached... I wonder when I'll see it next? In the meantime I scored another Ebay bargain a few weeks ago. Factory workshop manual from the UK Concessionaires in London. As my car has a London plate it is likely it passed through their hands when it was imported in '62. Nicely translated and good layout, with a picture of the tools required at the top of each section. Hmm, these numbers might come in handy So that's it. At some point (two years?) the shell will get dragged back down here, to meet up with its component parts and the restoration will commence. To end this chapter here's a photo scanned from an old Popular Classics magazine by an autoshiter...

Exciting news of a sort about this.
Yesterday I spoke to possibly the original UK owner and his wife! He certainly bought it at some time in the '60s and owned it until 1987. They had very good memories of the car, taking it with four kids camping to the South of France etc in the '70s. We've exchanged email addresses so I am hoping to get some photos soon as she was going to have a look through some old albums. He also said he had some papers/books relating to Borgwards (parts list possibly) so they might be available too.
Feeling mega inspired by this! Wonderful to be able to hear some of its history when it was still a cared for family car and not a resto project, especially as it has likely been the later for longer than the former.
