There's about 7 threads protruding, at 12x1.25 thats 8.75mm of stud being used. I suspect that that is no where near enough. Is the rule of thumb 150% of stud diameter? That would be 18mm of stud, that seems quite a lot.

Small furry animals will die, more global warming will occur, and the world may come to an end by mid-October.
You need longer studs...

^^^ Yeah, sleeve nuts would work, but then you'd need bigger holes. New studs look like the cheapest option

General rule of thumb is 1.5 D, ie on and 8mm stud, 8* 1.5 = 12mm stud length.
However this is open to argument/judgement etc, common sense however would dictate that if it doesn't look right then it probably isn't ;D

Ford Focus RS Mk1 - hello low MPGs and "wanna race me" at every set of lights... 1973 BMW 2002 - Twin 40's, 284 Cam, Revolutions, E21 Recaros + more Porsche Cayman 987 3.4S - here and due to cost me more money than I have

No need for longer studs, just cut the nuts in half!
