Trumpet (or rather total intake tract) length determines how long it takes a pressure wave to travel to the open end and back. If the positive pressure wave arrives back at the inlet valve when it opens again then you get a supercharging effect when the extra pressure forces more air into the cylinder. Longer trumpet = longer for the pressure wave to travel and the effect will occur at lower rpm. But the length takes into account the whole intake length, ie from bellmouth to intake valve. The differences in a 2" trumpet and a 3" might be only a couple of hundred rpm, i.e. fine tuning. Very short intake length (like on this engine) will not see the benefit as it wont rev high enough!! Maybe something like 10-12" total intake length for 6500rpm peak with those diameters? Take a look at the standard intake length and knock a few inches off to get ballpark length with similar diameters.
The main benefit of having the trumpet is that you have a proper bellmouth with at least the same diameter as the mouth clearance in front of it. Cannot emphasise that enough. Some upturned trumpets as long as possible with a big filter and plently of clearance is the answer!
Awesome build though, the CG13 really is a bombproof little unit!

Well the update from me is as follows......... I've owned it since January this year & its been mega reliable apart from a few niggles,it developed a fuel leak on the carbs which was due to a failing o ring on the feed splitter pipe which once i replaced was all good again. A couple of other jobs on the list to do are an inner cv boot thats split & a minor brake fluid leak from the splitter block on the passenger inner wing which i have the replacement splitter block i just haven't got round to doing it yet! I went on a camping holiday in Devon this week just gone & i took the Micra & car-b-q trailer & it was loaded to the hilt with everything needed in & on the car,i retro fitted a modern large roofbox on to it for extra carrying capacity using some roofbars i had from my Omega that needed shortening to fit the roof plus me the wife & my little girl & suprisingly it performed really well even though i think it was a tad "over loaded" & it even returned an average of 34 mpg there & back which is really good considering all the extra weight! A photo from the campsite of it resting up & one of it loaded up for the return journey home....... Tim.

love this ride.. nice to see its still out there being used! campsite looks.. abit.. full!! Yeah the campsite was very full but saying that the pitch sizes were a very good size & seeing as we went with our neighbours we were side by side(there in the T4 camper van with awning in the photo) so we had a double pitch with plenty of room as it goes from the blue van on the left to my tent behind the long blue windbreaker. Also, is that Croyde?

What's planned for it then? Also, is that Croyde? Nothing else is planned for the moment besides fixing the cv boot & brake fluid weep as i'm still trying to iron out the last few niggles with my Subaru Brat pickup i recently converted to Impreza turbo running gear! Oh that is Woolacombe Bay campsite just up the hill from the beach.....
