Last year Richy, Darren (Datsuncherry) and I went to the classic touring car racing at Pembrey on the Sunday, it was a very enjoyable day out. So I figured we could do it again. On the Saturday this time. These are the folks we're off to see : www.csccgb.co.uk/

Uni is ace, only downside is having my car in the street where it will prob get molested at some point. Its my last year (4th year) ive done a 2 year HND and will finnish my degree (Motorsport engineering and design) this year. while i think about it i was going to do Megadsquirt as my final project but this may come off being a bit flowery (and not technical enough) does anyone have any good ideas for a project? some people are modeling Diesel combustion in association with ford another guy is using spark plug pressure transducers (sp? well everything i write is really) in a CBR 600 to analyse the combustion ect. any suggestions are greatfully received, id like to something associated with engines as thats what i want to get into. My mate did his final year project on variable valve timing which involved coming up with an alternative & possibly more efficent design. Pretty interesting - but due to the obvious complexity he couldn't actually produce anything - just the design drawings.

I am in awe! Still getting my head around it, I've drawn a reasonable looking 510 Datsun in it, but I just need to practice loads.

Lewis,
At the moment I've been using it mostly for styling but I expect to be using it for modelling in the next year. Our tutor taught us really want we needed to know just to use the curves, bi-rails and rendering. If you have a spare tutorial handy I'd be grateful! In fact I'd buy you a beer. or two....

Damn. bad luck retro, but at least you'll get the chance to redo it. Two of my mates had to retake their entire 1st year last year, so its not all bad. I bet you screwed up on Design ANALysis.......

Well i've decided i might as well move up to Coventry anyway, it will hardly help my drawing skills spending more time at home. I suppose its not to bad a mate of mine on the course who lives in Hong Kong found that he failed the 2 moduals so now has to retake to year (7k tuition fees ) acctually i passed Design Analysis, i failed Visual Design. which i think is the follow on modual

Really sorry to hear that - sounds like they are still as organised as ever.....
Might also be worth having a chat with the NUS about this - if you are required to do a retake, I'm sure that the uni should have informed you ages ago.

Yea, Cov's been dicking me around too - I failed one module (out of 12, needed 55% in all to move on) but it was down to a dodgy mark - on coursework, which is my strongest point usually. So I rang lecturer, said to resubmit the re-sit bit, and you'd be allowed to proceed cause the rest of my marks were high. Did that, sent it back, bout 3 weeks later got note saying "recieved and marked" and nothing else??? Can't advance on Solar or anything Mind you, be there on Thursday so might just go shout at them...I suppose I can always accept fallback to Motorsport Engineering! (And yes, If I've got any free and it's not against the bosses will I'll send em to you....... ....two training excersizes recently finished involve modelling a Ford Focus, alloy wheels, a conditioner bottle and so on) Like so... And me just playing around Retromicra - surely you can continue the course though, but just have to resit that module?

Retro, like Paul said, its' odd that they've landed this on you now! If they'd mentioned you failed the module in June then you might have been able to retake the coursework over the summer. Something fishy going on there.......but yes, try and appeal. Got to be worth a go. Talk to Ivan, he's the best lecturer there.
Lewis, that crank and piston job must have taken quite a lot of patience....its looking good.......

Ivan Drummond? He's a good bloke and also extremely helpful. He arrived during my last year, but sadly he wasn't at my final crit though... the only lecturer there who understood my project (a large sailing yacht) was Graeme Vanner, who is now retired.
Am I right in thinking that Jenny Hann is no longer head of Industrial Design, and that Chris James has left too?

Yeah Ivan's a top bloke - genuine and really helpful. I think Graeme is part-time now. Jenny's gone taken off to France with a new hubby. Not sure about Chris though, but the place is quite a transitional place, so it wouldn't surprise me if he'd left.
Maybe they should do a docu-soap with the lecturers. I'd like to see that. Maybe not......
