Thought I'd introduce my other ride and retro commutermobile.... A 1982 Honda CB250NdB Superdream Deluxe. Bought it three years ago for commuting. Have run it most days since. even took it to a few shows (the above pic is from Builth Wells). It has taken a few falls and has a nice patina on it.... Last month it took up smoking so the engine has been removed and being done up. Am also taking the opertunity to clean up some of the grot. With engine As now The smoke was traced to a knackered head gasket and valve seals. However removing the engine (you need to do this to get the head bolts out!!) one of the studs siezed on the sump and has got to be drilled. This means a total engine strip... and machine out the bolt. Not so easy when the ally for the sump has athe consistancy of cheese... brilliant honta materials engineering!!! The current job list is, Spray the grot. Replace (make) mainstand spring c bracket Drill out siezed engine bolt (not so easy) Rebuilt engine Rebuild Bike.

This is my third....
I rode one as my first bike then sold it. Broke the second to keep the first going (still have a few of the parts!) Bought this one
Have been offered a 1979 400N as a pile of scrap. Am thinking of doing the engine up.#
Love these bike. So under rated these days because of the image. Is actually Hondas best ever selling geared motorcycle.... was a real sucess in the late seventies and early eighties.
Great touring machine and the most comfertable bikes I have ever riden by a long way. Have spent 3 hours solid on one of thes, hopped of and had no aches or pains.
PROGRESS:
Shot blasted the mainstand and brackets for powder coating. Made the spring retainer bracket. Lots of cleaning (how much sh1te can come out of a bike i thought was clean??) Lots of de-coking.

That takes me back, had a few 250n's and a 250rs. I never had a deluxe though. Is the exhaust aftermarket? I seem to remember the downpipes down each side and a balance box underneath, i could be wrong cos its many years since ive been near one

The exhaust in that piccie is a aftermarket Micron. That rotted last year and was replaced with a o/e system which is, as you say, one pipe on each side with a collector in the middle.
Is an enormous system and a pig to fit!!!! But looks damed good!!!!

Fantastic bikes, had one of these and an earlier CB400 Dream a few years back. Like the CG125 they are mega reliable, great on fuel and have enough zing to get you round. What's the part situation like these days for them?

Would like a 400 Dream.... have got an early 400 superdream lined up if I want it. Might look at a conversion.... could be fun!!
Parts are pretty good still. There are a few parts like front mudguards, indicators, decals that are difficult to obtain but David Silver Spares can provide a lot of original parts... and there is always e-bay!!
Have started de-coking the head.... OMG!! How much black.... Although on the good side was deffo the exhaust valves leaking oil down into the engine. Need new valves really... if not it'll be facing these off and making good.

Big progress.... Put the rest of the bits on... charged the battery, checked everything was tight, primed the lubrication system, changed the fuel (put the stale stuff in the mini, it'll burn ny on anything) and away it went first flick. result!!! ;D Pumped the tyres up and off for a test ride in the pi**ing rain. There was, however nothing that could spoil the joy of getting the commuter back. Will post pics as soon as I can stop riding it!!

What a pain.. hope it's not too serious might just be a dodgy gasket.
